Does the type of baptism water make any difference?

So today I decided that my son and I would go swimming. A few minutes into us dipping into the pool, two buses come full of worshippers. We thought they came for a swim but shock on us as they were being baptised. This kept me wondering whether it is okay or not to use swimming pool water. I again thought that its just the same as being baptised in a river.

Well, that's their choice, but we don't go through that extent anymore. It's been a while since I've been baptised as well.

In my church, a jug is used to pour water on the head

Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, which, to be honest, in those days was probably not a pristine and unpolluted waterway as all the garbage and sewage people disposed of probably washed into it when the rains came. So, no, I don't think it matters what water is used or how much. The important thing is the faith of the baptized.

Very true. Naaman at first refused to go dip himself in the Jordan river to cure his leprosy because it was so dirty. I've heard of people being baptized in lakes and oceans. It is what is on the heart of the person being baptized, not the body of water. Besides, baptism is only symbolic of an inward happening -- being forgiven of one's sin and giving one's life to the Lord. Where the water is does not matter.

It doesn't matter where a person is baptized as long as God is in it.

Well, I think when the spirit is right, the water doesn't matter as much.

It should not matter as long as it is water.

@aureliah It is a bit strange unless the water has been blessed in some way. Otherwise they are just following old traditions but not in any meaningful way.

@JudyEv Exactly. Blessings is what got me concerned and with all the chemicals in swimming pool water

I guess it depends on the preference of the pastors but not of the faith.

When it comes to baptism, any body of water where one can be fully submerged is appropriate for baptism and the water remains water. It doesn not change in any way.

@aureliah If we look at the examples of baptisms in the Bible there is no mention of anything special about the water. All water is a blessing from God as it is vital for life.

Swimming pools are for swimming in. If they are used for baptizing one or more that's their choice I suppose, but it shouldn't change it being used as a swimming pool for everyone else. I've never heard of using a pool before. I hope it's a legit organization.

@aureliah maybe they don't have a church or they started the own church and some wanted to be baptized. I think using a sink and higher would work fine too. But, they may not have thought about that.

I think is the best baptism in a river but if can not be done people baptise into the pool, it is ok. The Son of God is baptized in the river, and because of this, people think it is better and they want also to be baptized in the river.

@aureliah You think is better be baptised in a river?
@GovindaB (249)

Baptism in a swimming pool? If we are to consider the 'energy flow', the river is better. In baptism one's life is given to God, and a flowing river signifies the flow of new kind of birth, thus "born again".
