Why I Hate my iMac

Mac hides its file path so I can't find anything. In Windows I can edit a photo online, put it in a file where I can always find it, and then use it whenever I wish. Mac won't open the files I want to save my photo in so that I can put the photo there. When I have thousands of photos I don't want to just put it in "photos." Windows will let me save a photo four levels down if necessary. It took me several minutes to export this photo from my yesterday's walk into a folder somewhere called "trees" -- a folder I have no idea how to find since there's no file path until I know what file "trees" is in.
I think in terms of folders and subfolders. Apple thinks in terms of "tags." I don't have time to tag every one of the photos I take just so Mac can find it when I need it.
All of you who love an iMac, do you have a solution for me? Usually in the past iMac showed me some subfolders, but not today. Only main folders like "pictures" and "downloads" and my drives and devices showed. I really want to save these photos to my external thumb drive in the proper folder so I can use it on any computer and it will save the changes. Mac only offers me the thumb drive itself and won't let me choose a folder.
Do you prefer Mac or Windows for processing and storing photos? Why?

I only have experience with Windows so this sounds so confusing and frustrating to me. I hope you can get it figured out how to move the files around easier and find what you want. Maybe @daddyevil can help you with some computer advice.

Part of the problem is that there's no consistency with Apple. On some days it allows me to go into my folders. On other days it doesn't. I need to take my PC to the shop or get a new one, and while it's gone all I will have is the iMac.

I thought I felt my ears burning, Shaggin.
Thanks for thinking of me and suggesting I might be able to help Barbara.

You are too funny, Barbara!
Let me see... have you found the "hidden" Finder Path Bar on your iMac yet? Try this tutorial and see if it helps you.
Then try this one and see if it makes thumb drives easier for you on your iMac. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA1-DEDh_n4
Personally, I am not fond of any Apple products. But, I had to learn how to work with the Apple OS in their phones, tablets and pcs. I did own my own computer store, after all. (I'd look pretty silly if I owned/sold Apple products but couldn't explain how to work with them, now wouldn't I? )
I've always thought Windows was easier to work with than Apple, but the Windows programmers have brain farts that are just as bad as anything the Apple programmers have done (in my own opinion, of course)!
Good luck! (I will try to watch this discussion in case you need more or different help.)
Edit to add: Sorry, I meant to tell you how beautiful your photo is... and then got caught up in trying to find the online tutorials that might help you the best. *shake my head* (Can you see my inner geek showing a bit?)

@Daddyevil that's really cool you owned your own computer shop. Why don't you still work there? Not enough business? I absolutely love my apple iphone best phone I ever owned and it was only $99.

I looked up the article, but my last operating system updates have replace iPhotos with simply Photos. Although iPhotos is still on my computer and I like it better than Photos, my camera only uploads to Photos now, so iPhotos isn't up to date. I have no idea what the new Mojave OS may do to my programs. It may discard them and make me learn new ones. iMovie hasn't worked right since I upgraded to Maverick. The tech people kept saying the next update would fix everything, but no update ever has. Which makes me doubt if Mojave will be any different or even have a rougher learning curve.

I loved my Mac when I first got it, but when that one have its hard drive crash, I've never been able to get the drive put back together the way it was. I can see my photo better on the Mac, but I hate having to export photos to a location instead of just saving them. I think Apple and PC users just think or work differently.

Another thing that drives me nuts is the Mac scrolls in the opposite direction through my screen from my PC. I have to remember that when I use the Mac a lot.

I've never been a fan of Apple. I'm not sure what it is or why, but I just don't find it appealing. With windows and Android, you have so many options to personalize and customize things the way you want them. I've used a mac once and my hubby has an iPhone. I have a hard time navigating it. My dad's first smartphone was an iPhone and I've been trying to convince him to switch over, but he is afraid of the change.

I think change is most of the problem. The two systems are very different in their organization. For example, I'm going nuts using both computers, which are next to each other, more frequently and going from one to the other. One scrolls up when I scroll and the other scrolls down. I keep forgetting which way I'm scrolling when I change. Drives me crazy. I bought the Mac because it's supposed to be better with graphics, but it is hard to find what I need because of the way it's organized. But the photos do look better on the iMac when you do find them. I like looking for things in Photos on the Mac, but to use any of the photos I have to export them to some file I can work with and then export the result somewhere else.
