Excuse Me. Have You Seen Doodles?

A few weeks ago some neighbors were out taking a walk and stopped to chat while I was out walking Doodles, the cat, in the front yard. I walk where HE wants to walk.
He likes women, but is afraid of men who are strangers. As I chatted, he wandered around. Of course I kept my eyes on him.
When he was out of my sight, I excused myself and took off to find him. It took me 15 minutes. I finally found that little stinker in the pachysandra along the edge of our woods. I was so relieved! We heard there are now bobcats roaming the woods, along with coyotes, red foxes, and black bears.
Have you ever lost sight of your pet?

@DianneN - We have lost sight of our "grandpets" when we have taken care of them. I worry for the pets, but I also don't want to upset our daughter! Fortunately, we have never lost one. (Whew!)

Our pets were always inside pets, so we only lost them when they decided to hide under a hutch or something. But mostly they were inside and fine. They are both gone now and I miss the hell out of them. Looks like Doodles was having a hoot of a time.

@DianneN Good idea. It's like when we tried to have kids. She had two miscarriages, and she did not want to try the third time even though I did. She just could not bear the loss of another child. The hard thing about pets is that we ALWAYS have to say goodbye. They just don't outlive us, and they become so much like family it is so hard to say goodbye. VERY hard.

There he is - that Doodles ! Glad you found him! Well, one of my daughter's parakeets flew out the door . . . out of sight, never to be seen again . We will never make that mistake again and are more careful now - it's just sad we had to lose one to learn that lesson .

I'm glad you found Doodles. I have lost sight of a pet now and then. We have two squatter cats who live on our front porch and sometimes miss a meal but they always show back up. We have a big fenced in backyard our two dogs love to run in. Some of it is still heavily wooded and we can lose sight of them but can always hear their dog tags clinking.

@1hopefulman To be honest, we had the same thing happen to a cat, too. It was my fault. She had been peeing in the basement, and the vet tested her and told us she didn't have cystitis or anything medically wrong with her. I had it one day, and put her outside. She rarely went outside. The last time I saw her, she was playing with the leaves as they fell from the trees. My husband and sons looked everywhere, but we never ever found her. I'm still sick over it to this day. We think she was ill and went into the woods to die or a hawk got her.

They like to hide and scare us. I am glad you found him. This morning (for the first time) I have seen the new young kitten that the owners of Willy have collected at the shelter. He is lovely A shy ginger tabby, with big yellow eyes and a stucco nose. He approached a bit, but he is still suspicious. I know I am going to love him.

I can understand why you worried about Doodles..There are times Sophie disappeared and I thought she ran away but she was hiding in the house. When there are too many people she cannot take it so has her own place that she be go to to be by herself. It is hard for her.

Oh, he loves women so much, he even looks inside their handbags!. He hides when workers work outside or inside, and meandered away when he spotted the male neighbor. It's always a relief to find him. Black and shadows do not go well together.

We have a fox that has lived down back of our property for years and years. I think he has a family actually though so there is likely more then just one. Coyote and bear are all over here. I have only gotten to see a bobcat once when I was driving it ran across the road.
My boyfriend was hunting the other day and he saw little cat prints and bigger cat prints then when he followed them he saw a momma bobcat with cub. I would have loved to see that. Luckily the beagles weren't near at the time the bobcat would kill those little dogs to protect her babies. My boyfriend said he saw that happen once with one of their beagels when he was young
The first thing I noticed was all the plants in the photo around Doodles. I was looking close at my screen and my son asked what can't you see the cat? Lol

I've seen foxes when I walked our dog, but they didn't bother each other thank goodness. I also saw one walking on the road as I was driving home. They are so cute.
Our son and my husband saw a bobcat in his woods when my husband was helping him with a project. My son called to warn me to be on the lookout when I walk Doodles and boy, am I ever! How awful that must have been when the bobcat got your boyfriend's beagle.
We threw some pachysandra into the woods and in 100 years the woods will be covered with it! Your son is so cute!

Glad you found him. Bambi and Bunny both like to disappear on me at times. But they are usually out by the pond when they do.

@DianneN Bunny has been known to check on the neighbors chickens. But they know her and know she wont hurt the birds. She gets in trouble for that one.

I'm glad you found him. I had a dog who waited for the door to open long enough for her to dash out and roam the neighborhood for three hours. When I first got her, I would chase after her. She was impossible. She always came home. Then I had a gentleman walker. He never left the yard unless you went into the house without him. Then he would casually take a walk. I roamed the neighborhood looking for him. A couple of times I had to rescue him from the humane society, the little Rascal. My last dog didn't leave the yard, ever.
This is Rascal - my border collie of 14 years.

I remember seeing Rascal's photo. What a face on him!
For some reason, every dog we owned (all males) took off for parts unknown once the door was opened, leash and all. Sometimes they dragged our younger son along the ground, too, when he tried to walk them.
