If you could live anywhere in the US....

Hi everyone! My husband & I are both Army veterans and we're used to moving all over the world. Now that we're both out of the military, we couldn't decide where to make our permanent home. We moved to California because his dad made incredible promises... long story short, we need to move again. We are looking, first of all, at places all over the continental US. The requirements are: it has to snow during winter, not be TOO cold the rest of the year, have a low cost of living and be safe (statistically low crime). Does anyone live in a place like this? What do you like about where you live? What do you not like about it?

Hmmm...sounds like Oregon. That is, if you stay out of Portland...

@aneekebeth Depends on the area. I live on the coast and it's around 40-50° in fall/winter. We don't get snow on the coast. In the summer, the weather is soooo nice! Stays around 70°. Other areas get colder and will actually snow. We used to live in the Willamette Valley and got roughly 2' of snow one year. In the summer, it got hot: around 100°. Though the humidity wasn't that bad and it always cooled off at night. It does rain a lot here in the fall/winter...
