Vikki Carr is a legend in the Latin music world who first gained notoriety in the 60s as a mainstream pop singer. Born in El Paso to Mexican parents, Carr was a struggling singer with a couple singles eking into Billboard top 40. Then she literally struck gold with “It Must Be Him.” The song established Carr as a headline performer frequently guesting on TV talk and variety shows.
She never matched the success of “It Must Be Him” and switched gears to Spanish language recordings in the 80s and 90s. Carr scored a string of hit on the Billboard Spanish charts with her biggest being “Cosas Del Amor” reaching #1. The singer collected three Latin Grammy Awards.
From the album of the same name, “It Must Be HIm” was written by Mack David and Gilbert Becaud. An eight time Academy Award nominee, David specialized in translating french songs in this case “It Must Be Him” originally by legendary French singer Becaud. The song is about a brokenhearted woman desperately hoping he will call her. “It Must Be Him” peaked at Billboard #3 and received three Grammy nominations.
