Drama in the E.R.!

I feel like I was in a television show last night. My youngest child, G, had fallen and bit through her bottom lip. Well, not exactly through it, more like into it. It was a pretty deep cut, at any rate. Now we don't often run to the E.R. or even the doctor, for that matter. But this looked like it needed more than the husband and I could deal with. So I took G to the E.R. at 9:30 pm. I expected to get in quickly but we ended up sitting and waiting for about 3 hours. Ug. During those 3 hours I was privy to quite a show: First there were two people who came in thinking they were having a heart attack. They got the gentleman back to a room quickly but the older lady had to sit in the lobby, panting, for about fifteen minutes. I'm guessing the gentleman got back faster because he was arguing and getting loud... Next came in an older woman and her husband (or brother?). Apparently her daughter tried to kill her and she had to escape out the window. She was at the E.R. so they could confirm and clear the injuries she sustained. Then a young lady came in yelling that her family was trapped in a room and the room was going to explode. After security got her calmed down, she started yelling that she had a brain tumor and wanted to be checked in. While she waited in the lobby with me she started muttering about guns and not wanting to be shot. I couldn't figure out if she had a mental disorder, if she was on drugs, or if she was possessed by an evil spirit. Maybe all three? While she was crying about her family being dead from a bomb down the street (no explosion, by the way), two security guards were escorting a man out of the building. Apparently he didn't want to leave. After threatening jail if he didn't go, he stood outside arguing loudly until two more officers came. It took four security guys to get rid of him. At this point I started debating about going home, as G had fallen asleep and her wound was actually scabbing over. However (a) we'd already been waiting so long I was stubbornly determined to see a doctor and (b) I didn't want to go outside alone with a 16-month-old with a potential "crazy" guy lurking outside. So we kept waiting and — Wow. I never realized before how crazy the E.R. could get at night! All y'all that work in the hospital...kudos! You put up with a lot of crap! Eventually G was cleared (no stitches needed) at 1am and we were able to go home. Now I'm praying our little outing didn't result in us picking up any nasty germs... What sort of drama have you been witness to lately?

I can imagine that ER rooms really are the pits. I would never cope with working there.

The employees are so calm! I wouldn't handle it well at all, if I had to work there.

Thanks. Her lip is already looking much better. Dr. said mouth wounds heal fast but I suspect kids heal even faster than adults.

Glad that you finally were seen and able to go home. ER is a place where it is better stay away from! I have seen lots of strange stuff too there.

We try not to go unless we reaaaally have to. I hate exposing ourselves to the germs. I didn't realize we'd be exposed to so much drama, as well!

I’m sorry about G. And I can’t believe she’s already 16 months old. Time flies!
