Doodles the cat has been unwell, but began eating and drinking yesterday after 3 days. He hasn’t used any of his three boxes as of Saturday morning which is very bad.
My son took him to the vet this morning where he was given an enema. However, he needs to relieve his bladder. If not, it could prove fatal.
He will need to be taken to a surgery center to be catheterized. His heart surgeon doesn’t want him to be put under. His heart can’t handle it.
Either way, it doesn’t look good. I can’t concentrate or think straight. All I can do is wait for him to urinate on his own at the vet’s now and pray that he does.
Please pray for my precious Doodles. I love him so much. We all do.

@DianneN Does the vet know why he quit eating or drinking or why he wasn't eliminating on his own? Or is it possibly just age related?

@MarshaMusselman He was ill since last Thursday vomiting and wouldn't eat or drink water. He got constipated so much so, that it pressed against his bladder. He couldn't use his box at all.

Thank God he went to the bathroom!! I don't like using the bathroom in hospitals either!
Enjoy the last couple days with him before y'all leave. =)

The vet called my son and told him he didn't urinate and suggested the hospital. My son decided to bring Doodles to my house, where he is very comfy. He ate and then immediately used the litter box. We gave each other high 5's and I cried with happiness for having my prayers answered. We just have to keep an eye on him.

I was very worried about Doodles, until I read through some of the comments below and saw that he is back home with you. I hope everything is okay with your precious love.

@DianneN I hope you have a safe trip Dianne, and get to Florida safely. You must be very excited! Don't worry about the fact that it is a little chilly here when you arrive, it will warm back up in a day or two for you!

It was a true Hanukkah miracle!!! After sitting in a cage for hours, Doodles was Brough home here where he feels most comfortable and did what needed to be done. We were so happy and relieved. We just have to keep an eye on him. We were all distraught as you can imagine.

I posted this in haste and from being so upset. As it turns out, I want you to save your prayers. The vet cleared him out, but put him in a cage hoping the pressure on his bladder would be relieved. He was there in that cage for hours. Finally, my son decided to let Doodles come to my house where he would be more relaxed and comfy. Sure enough, he emptied his bladder and we jumped for joy! Then I cried some more for having my prayers answered. He's very comfy having eaten, guzzled lots of water, and is now in front of the fireplace listening to Bach and getting kissed every few minutes by me or my husband. Thank you so much!!!! We just have to keep an eye on him.

If he hasn't eaten or drank he won't have anything in him to go. I assume they will hook him up to IVs. Maybe then he can go. If not I would assume there is a blockage. Gosh that poor baby I can't even imagine giving the cat an IV or doing a catheter without it being put under. It really does not sound good at all I am so sorry. He may need a miracle right now and I hope he gets it!

@DianneN I had no idea anything was going on when we were commenting back and forth today. I am so glad for your update that Doodles went the bathroom. What a scary thing right before you guys leave. I hope he improves each day until he is back to normal. No one likes to be away from their loved ones especially pets so your sons idea to bring him home to help him relax was a great idea. Please keep updating us on how he is doing we all grow to love each other’s pets here :)

@shaggin Aww, thanks. I felt as if I was curt and short in my responses. I just couldn't think straight. It was scary, and so awful before leaving. I only have two days left with him and will be out most of the morning. He goes to his daddy on Wednesday. It would have been tomorrow, but the generator is being installed and my son didn't want loud noises and people scaring Doodles. So glad to have that extra day. We will stop by on Thursday to say goodbye. Our son is going to use our car to drive us to the airport and then store it in his garage and hopefully drive it at least once a week when they go out.

You should be a vet! They thought he had a blockage. He definitely needed the enema to relieve the pressure on his bladder. He was left in a cage for many hours with everyone hoping he'd tinkle. He didn't urinate at the vet at all. My son suggested bringing him to my house where he would be more relaxed. He did it, and no need for being put under. We just have to keep an eye on him. Thank you! It was truly a miracle. He was at the vet while I was blabbing with you this morning. I couldn't think straight.

Thanks so much for your prayers. Your prayers were answered. After being stuck in a cage for hours, my son brought him here where he is most comfortable. Within minutes of eating, Doodles used his kitty box and made a tinkle, so no life threatening surgery was needed. It was a miracle for us.

It wasn't good at all. They tested him for diabetes and liver enzymes. They also noticed his heart murmur and enlarged heart. He did fine with his enema, but was placed in a cage for hours hoping he'd urinate. He didn't urinate at the vet. My son suggested bringing him to my house where he would be more relaxed. He did it! We are all so overjoyed. He wouldn't have survived being put out. My prayers were answered.

@DianneN - I'm so glad to hear that Doodle's is doing better. Our daughter who lives near us has an elderly dog who is not doing well. I know she is worried that she will have to put her down in the coming year and our soft-hearted daughter is dreading it. The dog can hardly stand up and, once she does, if she shakes her head she falls over. As a result, she often wets herself. It would be comical if it were not so sad. This is the dog we often dog sit when our daughter is out-of-town, so we will all miss her. Our daughter is giving her medications and is trying to keep her alive and comfortable as long as possible. Here's a picture of her in our living room, sitting by my husband's feet.

@DeborahDiane Thank you. Doodles is doing better and hopefully will be here when we return from Florida. My son is so worried his heart will give out. We'll see if there is any improvement in February when Doodles has his third ultrasound.
I'm so sorry to hear of your daughter's poor dog. That is a very sad situation and heartbreaking to know what's coming. We just went through this with Kuma, our son's female cat. He still cries over the fact that he misses her so much. My brother also had to have his dog put down last month and called to chat today. He broke down, too. I know that your daughter will try to keep her dog alive with meds and as comfortable as long as possible. It's heartbreaking. She is such a beautiful dog. Hugs to you all.

I'm sorry. He was doing well, but I realized he had not been using his kitty box at all. Thanks for your prayers, but you can save them for someone else. He didn't urinate at the vet. My son suggested bringing him to my house where he would be more relaxed. He did it! He will be fine now!
