I have a Problem with my Car's Windows

Hi all, I drive a scoda roomster car. It has electric windows. When I leave the car, turn it off and lock it, rain comes down and somehow makes one window open. The driver's window. Now, it is not enough that the sit got wet, the buttons that control the windows got wet too. Somehow, the rain opens the window, and penetrated the mechanism that controls the windows. When I drive, some windows have their own will, they open and close randomly and I can't control them. I wish the windows were mechanic and not automate. How can I fix that ?

This sounds very much like your car is haunted! However I'm sure it's not funny. I guess the water has upset the wiring in some way.

Probably, I had to pay for a new engine, and another thing. Those together cost me 400 ILS. And I paid with cash, so he gave me a discount. Ummm...he did open the panel, he saw something was wrong in there.

Why not bring it back to the company dealer of that car to have it repair? Does it have a warranty?

It is 2nd hand, it is an old car from 2008. There is no insurance for such things in the car.

@stringer321 I thought it's brand new. Well, have it checked up to your electric/car mechanic friend. Hope it would be repaired.

Oh boy that would be so frustrating when driving along and they open and close on their own. There definitely is something wrong with it.

I think when the cars got turned off, those electrical doors or windows will be turned off too, but I got confused on the part that you turned off the car and when it rains the window went open? I think you need to go to mechanical so that they can check it

You must bring your car to fix, this is extremely dangerous.

Not dangerous but inconvenient: rain and wind can get inside my car, thives can take stuff from the car...cats can jump into the car at night and sleep inside, make dirt and fur...I got the windows fixed.

@stringer321 Dangerous exactly because of thieves and wild animals.

@LadyDuck aww, I would describe it as not comfortable and annoying. A cat got into the engine cell to enjoy the heat yesterday. I opened my car to check water and oil levels and the cat jumped out. That was a surprise.

That is a strange and unique issue. You should head to your mechanic for the best fixing

@aureliah I wish I could fix it myself, but, this technology is electronics, I don't know how to fix stuff like that, and not mechanical stuff. I wish cars were more simple to understand and fix by everyone.

Thank you, that is what I did. It seems it was the best thing to do because I had to change engine of the windows. I don't think I could fix it myself or my dad. And even if we could, we would need to buy an engine ourselves, and that could take even a whole day.

Thank you for the advice. I took my car to the mechanic 8 months ago already. Look at the date of the discussion.

I fixed that 3 months ago. Thanks. Now I have another problem, my engine loses water when I drive the car, it can become too hot with not enough water to cool the engine. Plus, my left back door cannot get locked.

Woah, good morning, this discussion is almost 8months old now. My recent problems with the car were the engine, and the stearing wheel. I hope I fixed them too. It costed me a lot of money, around 10,000 ILS I could maybe buy a car...

I've had window problems before and only the mechanic can do them. I know you got it fixed but I am surprised that the rain caused the main problem. Although you did say other windows tended to go up or down whenever so maybe it was just coincidental that your window moved just when it rained. Although that may be what it took for you to get it fixed. Had it gone up and down randomly then one day you maybe wouldn't get any window closed when needed because you put it off for too long. So blessing in disguise. I bought my new used car two years ago with it's own window issue. When it's going up it stops halfway. I have to wiggle it to get it moving up again. Maybe your post and what I said earlier is to get me to stop dawdling about getting my own fixed. I will have to check on that next week. Thanks. Seriously.

I would go to the company that made and sold the car and tell them. They should have a answer.

This car is second hand, it was bought from someone else. If I bought a whole new car from somewhere, I would study the car book very well, I would maintain the car according to it. Anyway, this is now fixed, I saw how the technician took care of it. He had to do stuff I had no clue about, well...that's why I said goodbye for 400 NIS that is 12 hours of work for me.

@stringer321 Did you take it back to where you bought it and tell them about it and for them to fix the problem?

This car is bought from someone else, second hand. I just took the car to a garage that is specialist with cars glasses (zagag rekhev in hebrew). The technician opened the side of the door, took out the controller, pressed on the buttons, saw the problem, then he suggested to replace the engine. That's what we did.

@stringer321 Did you need to replace the engine? How is the car now?
• Kiryat Ata, Israel

@Hannihar The windows are all right, I probably had to replace the windows engine. Even if I didn't have to, I'm happy that I did instead of trying to find a solution, run from one garage to another and start learning how to fix it. I got it all done after one hour. So far so good.
