Learn from Experience

I've read a quote somewhere that goes like... "Maturity comes with experience, not age." As you stumble from one job to another, or that you stay with a company for more than a decade, you start asking questions like, "what have I gained from this lot?" "where will I be in the next 5 years?" "will I have a chance to open my own store?" I know someone, she's 30 years old, who has been working in the same company for a decade. Fresh from college, she got employed by the company as an accounting assistant, and now she's the accounting supervisor. She knows a lot about money management for the construction company she's working for. Her decade-long experience has immersed her well in dealing with people management and her leadership skills have been formed. On the other hand, she did not get to improve any of her other skills like being tech savvy. She tells me she's matured to handle a business of her own, but she fears failure. I'm amused of this case, because I'm 32, and yet, I don't know what to do. I have several years in online teaching, several years in the call center industry and I even had experience handling my own e-commerce site. When I was younger, I was confident to start this and that. But now, I'm quite hesitant and I like to think things through, double, triple if I can before diving in. Or maybe I'm a late bloomer? What I have right now is this extensive roster of past work experiences to bring me to the next chapter of my life. Hopefully, it's bright and prosperous. Your thoughts?

You do learn as you go along. After university which now seems so very long ago I started working in marine insurance and soon discovered that the way to get by in this industry was to keep changing jobs and gaining work experience. Then I made the decision to move to Latvia and left eight years of working experience behind me. But this turned out to be good because now I have returned to the states after 20+ years and now all I have to do is add two more years to those eight and I can look forward to my social security payments.

How I wish I could go back to those times that when asked what I want to be when I grow up, I have a definite answer like I want to be a journalist, or a drama actress. OH well

All of us learnt from experience but on getting aged we have more experience in our life. Hope you will gain confidence to do whatever you want in life.

I think you have learned a lot from your years but education doesn't stop in elementary, high school and college. It's a never ending process.
