Thinking About Eating Out?

Yeah, I was too, until....I was carried back in my mind to my nursing clinical days. On this particular day, I was assigned to go to the Wound Center and spend four hours looking at people's disgusting wounds. If you have a wound, I apologize, but this is my weakness as a nurse. Well, one of them. A patient came in with her daughter, who was dressed for work as she was going to drop her mom off at home afterward and rush off to work. Her T-shirt bore the name of a famous pizza chain. I won't mention the name. (Al Pacino and Marlon Brando) The patient had a huge open, seeping wound on her leg. The nurse was changing the bandage, and teaching the daughter to do the same. The daughter, without gloves, had her hands all over the patient's leg. I thought for sure she would at least wash her hands before leaving, BUT NO! Not so much as even hand sanitizer. People don't think their own germ are dangerous. They live with them every day. People don't wash their hands because they are not afraid of their own germs. Well I am afraid of them! Up to this day I have a very hard time eating out because I wonder where the worker's hands have been before handling the food. You want to go eat out now?

If the employees aren't wearing gloves I don't eat there.

Smart move. How many times have you seen a waitress wear gloves?

@cindiowens @LovingMyBabies This comment actually made me think of something I noticed the other day. A lady at the thrift / book store I go to was wearing gloves. I was there twice this week and saw it both days, I think she may have been wearing them anothe rdy as well. I was wondering if it was something to do with a medical condition or if she was touching something at the store (a delicate book for instance) that made her put on gloves? I think it had to be the former as they don't really sell anything that would require gloves. Even the comic books they have, I am not sure they use gloves for.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Money is disgusting. Especially if you live in a town where there are strip clubs. Think about it. If you touch a dollar bill, what else are you touching?

I will be an optimist and hope that she washed them before touching any food. However, no, no I think for right now I'll abstain from eating anything at all.

@cindiowens It's interesting how a job can make us look at things differently. I wash my hands in a completely different way then I once did because I used to be an in home aide. We were taught how to wash differently.

eww. I'm guilty of having hand sanitizer in my purse and not use it. But I would never tough a wound without some protection.

Me either. I was really disgusted by that. It was 20 years ago, but I remember it like yesterday.

I should have skipped this one! I just got food at Captain D`s. My hands are dry and sometimes hurt because I wash a lot, in the car I use sanitizer. I am a caregiver to people who cannot get germs, cancer patients. I have did this for 20 years so I know the importance of hand washing, glove wearing and hand sanitizing. Not to boost but never, not once has a patient caught anything under my watch.

It is really disgusting if you think about it. How many men have you watched going out of the restroom without washing their hands? Servers are no different.
