Cover versions that were better than the original

Its a contentious issue but just occasionally an artist brings something to a song that justifies covering someone else song.
For my money there are a few that are as good as the original, if not better.
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley covering Leonard Cohen
A New England - Kirsty McColl covering Billy Bragg
Wild Horses - The Sundays covering The Rolling Stones

I don't like Jeff Buckley's version. I much prefer Leonard's version, or k.d. lang's.

I must admit, I like both. That said there is a live version from LC when he returned to playing about 10 years ago recorded at The Albert hall in London which is amazing.
