Ward off those temptations.

Its going to be sugar free cakes this time. I am off sugars and refined flour so I am planing on baking maybe one or two small almond flour cakes with some kind of artificial sweetener.. This is basically to ward off any form of temptation that abounds at this time of the year.
I always have dark chocolate made with artificial sweetener in my fridge for the odd craving that is bound to hit me.. a few times a month..
Its too much of a temptation at this time of the year, and it is better to be prepared and armed sufficiently than to fall into the trap..
Maybe a box of sugar free ice cream will also be good..
I don't like artificial sweeteners but if this will help me why not? How about you? how are you planning to keep yourself away from temptations at this time of the year.

Do you get almond flour there? I never had it.
Do you mean stevia as the sweetner

@responsiveme I buy it online.. or make it myself.. No stevia is not good great in cakes.. I don't mind natural stevia in ice creams.. it does have a strong flavour.. I have made coconut cream jelly with stevia from my garden and it was excellent.

Definitely I'm going to be good and keep with sugar free. I found Pillsbury sugar free cake and brownie mix at Walmart and Safeway. Target got the cheapest, but they don't stock them locally on Oahu, yet...I've requested them for the Ala Moana store and they said thanks they'd look into it. I got to go get salami soon so I'll window shop and see if they'll stock Pillsbury sugar free mixes.

@oahuwriter they still will have a whole lot of carbs .. wont they? Carbs convert into sugar and cause the same problems.. Either way enjoy your sugar free cakes

Ahh yes, got to watch that too. Thanks for the reminder. So far so good. I passed by a whole bunch of pie slices today at our local Foodland Supermarket. When I went outside to ready myself for my bus ride, I gave a pat on my back for being able to pass the pie slices and stick to my diet.

@LadyDuck I do not use it on a every day.. I have done my bit of research on this.. and the evidence is non conclusive. I do understand that most research is funded by product companies that lobby to have results skewed to their benefit. I am careful not to take risks with health..

@sofssu It's a big business in the USA, they will never declare that "they are dangerous", they will say that there is an increased risk for type 2 diabetes, that they "could" cause arteriosclerosis, not to mention that studies leading to FDA approval have ruled out cancer risk. Why to take risks?

I use 100% pure maple syrup it's a little spendy but its better for you than anything else.
If you use this reduce your other liquids just add a little at a time until you have a good cake batter consistency. and like the taste. good luck with your baking

@ethal2018 I wish we could get the real stuff here. we hardly ever get maple syrup here and the ones we get aren't the real thing.. I know that for sure.

I know of so many diabetics (I am not one of them - God be praised) who are ok with sweets but take care of their insulin

I just couldn't help drink coke again for almost these past few days. So far, I have no experienced having another gout attack. I might try and control myself from getting anymore sugar beverages.

An almond flour cake sounds great....I have been making some low carb candy as a substitute to the high carb candy my family makes for Christmas and it helps me not to have the high carb ones (although today I had 2 pieces, but that's all I will have).

@MommyOfEli2013 if you use artificial sweeteners it should be a problem. as long as you keep count of the carbs.. its fine i guess.
