Over the summer I decided i wanted to start a vegetable garden. My first garden ever so I wasn't to sure how to go about it. I was basing everything on common knowledge and a few things I've picked up a long the way. Only a few things made it. I got a handful of green beans, a few tomatoes, and some peppers. Most everything died off except my watermelon which were going strong. I was really hoping for a watermelon or two to survive. But something always happened and they would die. Well when i thought all was over with my garden, I let the weeds take over until i had a chance to prepare the ground for next year. My father-in-law came to us weeks later and asked if i know i had a watermelon growing. I guess somewhere under all those weeds was a nice little watermelon. And it was the sweetest thing. Till next time....

The soil has to have the right amount of nutrients and proper drainage. Proper amount of sunlight, heat and time to grow to maturity. I think you will have better luck next spring.

That must have been a nice surprise. Maybe now you will try more things and know that you can do it. Keep us up to date on what is growing for you.
