Just When We Thought It Was Safe...

NO, not to go back in the water, to go OUTSIDE!
I have always considered this a fairly safe neighborhood. That is, until tonight. Let me back up to around two o'clock this afternoon.
My hubby and I were out on the front porch, and we noticed a group of people walking around looking towards their feet in the empty field across the street. We thought it odd, but didn't pay them much mind. People are always doing curious things, right? Totally forgot about it by two-thirty.
About five o'clock, there was a knock at the front door. It was one of the neighbors down the street. He informed me that he let his dog out early this morning (before daylight) and it never came back. The dog was quite old, and rarely left the yard, so when the sun came up (about thirty minutes later) he went to look for it.
He found it in the field. Its throat had been cut, and all of his skin was removed. He said they were walking around the field this afternoon to try to find some blood, as there was not a drop around the dog. They never found any except the smear that was directly under the body.
Now I'm no Columbo, but usually when you cut a living thing's throat, there is a LOT of blood.
This has just sickened me to the bone, and to be quite honest, it has frightened me to the bone as well.
Why would someone do this? Has anything like this ever happened in your neighborhood?

Sounds similar to cattle mutilations. I wouldn't go out either.

Cattle mutilations? Is that something recent?

@cindiowens No, cattle mutilations have been going on since the 40s. Some think there is a UFO connection. Not saying that is what happened here but - no blood is peculiar.

Me either. I won't even kill a fly if I can coax it out of the house.

That's how I felt when the man was telling me about it.

That is disgusting. I certainly hope whoever did it, whether it be the odd people you saw earlier, or what else.. Whomever, I just hope they get caught.
You are never as safe as you think you are anymore.

No, the odd people I saw earlier were the owners of the dog and Animal Control looking for any places where there was blood loss. They couldn't find any blood.

@cindiowens Oh I see, whoops I misread then.
Well either way, I certainly, certainly hope that whoever did that will pay. That kind of things scares me down to my very marrow. A person who would harm an animal is not a person to be trusted.

That would be just awesome. One can dream right? Probably won't be caught by anything.

No and it sounds like someone took the dogs blood, or it was killed somewhere else and dumped.

But this all happened in a span of about 30 minutes. It really has me worried.
