When Lettuce becomes a weed..

I have heard many in the garden forum say one man's food is another mans weed... and here is an example of this.. I haven't been consuming as much lettuce as I used to do before. and they have bolted and gone to seed.
The seeds seems to fly five to fifteen feet further than where the mother plant is and gets into all other containers and is now acting like a weed..
Lettuce grows really fast and take up all the nutrition in the containers so I have to pick then out as soon as they grow a few leaves.
Now I hardly plant lettuce.. I just eat what grows naturally..

I can relate to your story when it comes to curry leaves We have trees of that and saplings spread all over the garden.

@sofssu I am not sure a cutting will help The huge trees I have produce flowers followed by seeds and these seeds eaten by birds are responsible for those saplings.

I think it looks like a lovely lettuce. I have not eaten lettuce in a very long time. I used to enjoy having dandelion salads from dandelions in my garden back in Latvia.

Naturally as in what flew away that you didn't find? It doesn't grow wild around here or at least I've never heard of that before. Did you mean to say the seeds fly 5-15 feet away, or something else entirely?
I've not heard before that one man's food was anothere man's weed, but someone told me weeds are flowers growing where you don't want them and I supposed that could be said about green plants too. I say the same about trees that propogate where you don't want them, but I call those weed trees.

@sofssu We have some trees that I consider to be weed trees even if they're growing in parks or yards because they spread so easily. Most people don't know the harm they can do and haven't a clue they should monitor their yards and gardens for them and root them out before they take hold.
The reason I asked about the five to fifteen is because you said fifteen to fifteen, not ten to fifteen. I thought maybe you'd peek to see why I said that. You must have just thought I was being weird or funny perhaps.

Oh I envy you. Send me those lettuces .
I face the same problem actually. In my case it is the king's salad. It is a leafy herb, last month it produced seeds but I did not manage to save all seeds. The ones escaping now occupied half of my raised bed.

Hmmm... I didn't realize lettuce could become a nuisance, sofs. I'm glad it's easy enough for you to just pull up the baby plants before they become too much trouble.
I guess it must not get cold enough where you live to kill off anything you don't want to keep growing? Here, once winter weather hits I have to really work to keep the plants I want to survive from being frozen out. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil here things grow all year long and sometimes we miss baby plants and they grow so fast and furious and get into every other plants way.
