The Horse killed in spectacular car accident?

On my drive to work is a fork between I-680 and CA 242. At 70 mph, drivers decide whether to bear left or bear right. Yesterday, as I was bearing left, on the way to work, someone cut across four lanes of traffic to bear right from the left lane if the left side of the split. I slammed on my brakes so as not to be hit and and then accelerated so as not to be rear-ended by the car behind me. Had the bad driver clipped me, I would have spun out in the middle of I-680, probably being hit by several cars as I helplessly spun. As I continued to work, I was reminded how precious life is. I worked that morning with a bunch of diaper-clad 2-year-olds who gave me lots of hugs and life-stories I couldn't understand They had no idea that I almost didn't make it to work. Have you ever almost been killed?

Many years ago I was driving to Nashville and a semi decided to come into the lane I was in. Thankfully, there was a grassy median (there isn't one there anymore since they widened I-65) and I found refuge in the median. It took me a few minutes to stop shaking so I could continue driving.

@TheHorse -- of course! He/she obviously didn't see me, and probably wouldn't have even known if my car'd been wrapped around his/her wheels.

@FourWalls Sigh. But here in California, many drivers of small cars drive as if there are no other cars on the road. It's weird.

@TheHorse A guy coming at me blacked out and swerved into my lane. I got over some but we still hit mostly head on. I even married him later.

I don't know how deadly they would have been, if at all, but I have had some roughly similar near misses in cars. Most of them were on very icy roads. I'm fairly certain that the accidents would have been fatal or nearly fatal to the cars I was driving. Oh! I had a near miss while water skiing one time. A boat actually ran over me but the props missed me. That probably wouldn't have been fatal, either but likely crippling and/or disfiguring. On the opposite end of the spectrum, during a few kidney stones when I was in no actual danger of dying, I sincerely wished I would just die already. Then, eventually, they always gave me morphine or something else that worked and the feeling went away.

@TheHorse If I ever had to have a shot in the spine, they would have to knock me out first. I have a terrible needle phobia. During kidney stones, there is so much pain that it drowns out the phobia but under normal circumstances, I can barely do it, like during drawing blood for tests. If they wanted to put one in my spine, I would have to be put out first or it wouldn't get done. If I ever got diabetes, I would just die. There is no way I could give myself a shot. Not even for the blood tests that diabetics have to do.

@xander6464 I could if a vein or artery was not involved.

Kidney stones might be the end of me. I worry about getting shot in the spine. I do not want to be unable to walk or play guitar. The props of a boat would have spooked me severely.

Oh, I almost got hit by a college girl running a stop sign in Bloomington Indiana. Now that I think about it, my car DID get run into by a college girl running through a yield sign in Bloomington Indiana. But it was a fairly low speed collision.

@JamesHxstatic That sounds like a pretty serious collision. Did you learn why the person ran the stop sign? Did their insurance pay for everything? Was it a young (learning to drive) driver?

Thankfully you are unhurt. Sometimes drivers could be lethal on highways or state roads. I too had a near escape once when driving on a highway. And another time when crossing a road.

@TheHorse yes in such times we appreciate the value of life. But also makes us a bit more cautious of certain situations.

@TheHorse I had 3 near miss, I did nothing to escape, this is the reason why I believe in my Guardian Angel, he moved me.

In this case, it was a near miss. I took evasive action, and it was successful.

Oh yeah! I have had a flying shovel hit the car in the middle of rush hour. Been ran off the road by a semi..... Bad stuff happens on the interstates. Now I have done this, but there was no one in the way. I was being followed and I was in the fast lane, left, and the car following me was also in the fast lane a car or so behind. I have taken those three and got off at an exit. They could not get over and I got away.

It's weird to think that something like that could happen at any time. I'm glad I don't dwell on it.

@TheHorse You are very right. I think when certain things happen in my life that I get through I thank G-d for helping me pull through it. I am so glad you could fix the mess someone else did and made it through. I am glad you are here.
