Starting today, millions of people around the world will be traveling to visit their relatives for Christmas and the celebration of other winter holidays. Even non-Christians enjoy the opportunity to spend this time with their family or other loved ones. For those who object to people saying Happy Holidays, they may not realize that this is actually a contraction for Happy Holy Days. Whether you have just finished your celebration of Hanukkah, or you are looking forward to celebrating Christmas, or you celebrate Kwanzaa, or you are just looking forward to having a few days off work to go skiing or visit family, let me share with everyone: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

@DianneN - We often go to movies on the afternoon of Christmas Day, too! Once the gifts are opened and we have our holiday brunch, it can be nice to get out of the house! Enjoy the day.

@Nevena83 - I was walking in Laguna Beach, California today, where I live, and saw a family trying to take a selfie with their camera so I offered to take it for them. They had an accent and I asked where they were from. It was Serbia! So, just today I met three people from your country.

@mayka123 - That is true here, too. Only students get a long break at Christmas. Everyone else just gets Christmas Day off and, maybe, Christmas Eve.

@mayka123 - Most workers here don't get Christmas Eve off, but a few do. We also get New Year's Day off. It is nice when those holidays fall on Fridays or Mondays, so workers get a three-day weekend. I know a few people who have taken off work on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve so they can sneak in a four-day weekend!

Thanks for the good wishes. I haven't heard of Kwanzaa. What does that relate to? And have a marvellous celebration yourself. I hope you have a lovely few days.

@JudyEv - Kwanzaa is a relatively new holiday, but it is celebrated by African Americans and people of African descent in other countries. Here is the definition: "Kwanzaa is a celebration held in the United States and in other nations of the African diaspora in the Americas and lasts a week. The celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving. Kwanzaa has seven core principles."

Yes, there is a lot of connections between our celebration of Christmas and other types of festivals around the world. It is a period when people tend to be kinder towards one another and encourage peacefulness.

So true. All nations and all people of the earth will be celebrating another successful year of life on planet earth. We are all different and yet we all share a common planet. How profound and thought provoking to think about as we turn our calendars to a new year in 2019. Meanwhile I will be over indulging on Christmas cookies. I just baked some peanut butter and some chocolate chip cookies. My favorites.

@lookatdesktop - Yes, sometimes we don't appreciate that we all must live on the same planet, no matter how different we may seem. Soon, we will be starting a fresh new year. I hope it brings good things. I love chocolate chip cookies ... especially fresh from the oven!
