Time to continue our animal trivia quiz with a few more "Cool Cat Titled Songs."
Did you know a "Real cool cat" is a phrase that was often used in the jazz set describing those muscians. These 1920's Jazz musicians had many similarities to cats as they were out at night, always landed on their feet, resourceful, relied on themselves and were slightly aloof from society. Here's the Lovin Spoonful's take on some "Real Cool Cats" celebrating the music playing of Nashville musicians. Enjoy the music video as you figure out the "cat song clues."
Whodunnit? Do you know these songs and artists? Here are your hints:
1. This folk/pop musician recorded this # 1 Billboard hit in 1974. He received just as much acclaim for his humanitarian efforts to end world hunger as for his music. The cat-titled song recorded by this artist tells of a father and son who can't schedule time to be with each other, and it serves as a warning against putting one's career before family. When the young child grows up to have a family of his own, the roles become reversed, with the father finally wanting to spend time with his son, but realizing his son's life has become too busy to do so. With a heavy heart at the end of the song he realizes what his son said to him was true, he grew up to be just like him. You might also know this performer from another classic tune he recorded, about an aging disc jockey whose song title was the radio station's call letters. It became a big seller and international hit!
2. This Scottish born Folk-Rock artist has been recording since 1967. His songs have lots of very catchy tunes, many historical and political themes, and lots of clever lyrics that seem to paint pictures in your mind. The title for this tune came about when the artist came across a book on Vietnamese astrology, although the song was not about cats. Instead the musician was inspired by a Humphrey Bogart movie, "Casablanca," and he crafted lyrics based on the film. Some of the song's story tells of a tourist who visits a exotic market, meets a silk-clad woman, and has a romantic encounter causing him to miss the tourism bus the next day. This signature "cat" tune was released in the "year" 1976, and was produced by Alan Parsons who enjoyed a successful solo career of his own. Fun fact: This Folk-Rock musician shared a London flat with a young Paul Simon.
3. Bonus question- The artist John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful had a #1 hit as a solo artist in 1976. It was a theme song to a successful sitcom about a teacher who returned to his old school and given the job of teaching a class of misfits. One of those student misfits went on to become a Mega-movie star!
Now's your chance to provide those song and artist answers. Don't be a fraidy cat!... If your stuck and need additional help just let me know in your response. "You've Got A Friend" if more clues are needed. As always, thanks for reading and responding to my music post !!!!

1) Cat's In The Cradle but I never remember the singer's name.
2) Is it Donovan? If it is, I don't know the song.
Bonus) Welcome Back Kotter was the show and Welcome Back was the theme song by John Sebastian and John Travolta was the star to be but I'm not sure about the cat song since you featured the song about cats that I know.

From what I discovered about the song The Lovin' Spoonful were touting the remarkable musicianship of Nashville, and the Tennessee guitar pickers who have been "Playing since childhood." I believe the Jazz term reference "Cats" was a play on words....I would consider New Orleans the Jazz hub in the U.S.

@dgobucks226 Thank you! I knew the bonus. I recognized your clues for the first, but I can honestly say, I never knew the artist as the name doesn't ring a bell. I never heard song 2, though I do know Al Stewart by name only.
