That was a good walk, despite a small shock!

We have just got home from our Boxing Day morning walk, with Okami the dog. We walked from our village of Barlestone to Nailstone and back - about 3 miles in total.
The photo - admittedly taken in Summer rather than today - shows Nailstone Church in the distance. A small stream separates the two parishes, so it is down through the fields on one side, up the other, then round the church and back via a slightly different route.
Getting our dog - an 8-month old border collie - over the stiles was interesting, as was her first encounter with an electric fence! She got her nose just too close to the wire and then went off yelping in circles before she calmed down.
A lesson learned - she won't do that again in a hurry!

She recovered very quickly! Electric fences are there to make the sheep think twice before brushing against them, and a farmer is hardly likely to risk damaging his investment. The charge is therefore very low and serves as a reminder - like a small slap, for example.

Poor dog. I'm glad that she wasn't hurt. I hope those fences are designed to just repel and not injure...Well, they'd have to be, wouldn't they? Who would buy a fence that could kill their livestock?

@indexer That's good. Otherwise, there would be too many disasters.

In this case the fence separates the sheep field from the footpath - it is actually the foreground area you can see in the photo, which was taken a few years ago. No-one in their right mind would walk this path after dark, so no need for night vision cameras!
