It Was an Odd Christmas Day

We usually have a house full on Christmas day. This year my daughter and 4 of her boys were sick so only my son in law John and Christian came. My nephew was sick and so was my granddaughter Julia's husband. My son Jason and his wife and their three girls, Jeanna's boyfriend Spencer, and Julia and her two boys and Amie came. I know it wasn't no one but it seemed so much smaller and John's father died this year so that made it sad as well.
I made prime rib on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. The food was good and so was the conversation. We had loads of dessert. It was over in 3 hours except for Christian and our granddaughter Amie, they stayed and played Ticket to Ride with me, we had a great time. But before I knew it, it was over.
So much work for such a short time. Next year I am going to do something else besides prime rib, maybe spaghetti and meatballs or lasagna.

You are right. There can be so much work but within a few hours it is all over. We love playing Ticket to Ride. What version do you have? Our son introduced us to it and we have the basic US board plus Switzerland and India. We are now playing online and even had a game with our son and his wife who live in Ireland.

@BelleStarr I think Vince has all the variations on his computer but for mine, I'm buying bits and pieces as I go. The rules seems a bit harder to learn just off the computer. We first learnt to play from our son when we were in Ireland.

@JudyEv Yes I can imagine, it takes a little getting used to all the variations.

Funny thing was, I sat in the kitchen, the dining room was full and really didn't participate in the conversation. But everyone else had lively talk lol

@BelleStarr I know that feeling - sometimes you leave the room to fetch something or clear something away - and then somehow you don't feel like going back.

@BelleStarr That’s awful. Hope you feel better soon and certainly by New Year’s. We’ve been here for three weeks today. Drive safely and take care!

I hope everyone is better soon. My parents were sad this year because it was only them celebrating by themselves. I felt bad for them, that must be tough. =(

Yes, that would be tough. I am just not used to a short visit like this one.

I am beginning to think dining out in a restaurant would be ideal!! Or get the meal catered

@BelleStarr We dined out one year and I did not like at all, catered food is not what we like more. I can prepare something easier that takes less time, but Christmas is a "home matter".

I'm sorry not everyone could make it, and I hope everyone gets better very soon. But I'm glad you still had a big crowd of loved ones to spend the holidays with.

@BelleStarr A Turkish dish I was told, sultana/raisins, fried rice, chopped onion - meat - parsley with saffron/cumin etc. (I often skip the raisins, but add baby peas, corn & chopped carrot, etc)
