A very pleasant surprise

Early this morning, my wife's brother called up and told my wife that a package was on the way for us and my wife and I needed to be around because receipt should be acknowledged by us both. I was wondering then because it's the first time I heard of any package delivery requiring two signatures. Later on, his wife also messaged me that delivery will be made between 9 and 9:30 AM. I replied that we'd be around and that I was wondering why the courier would be the one setting the time and she said they have many deliveries to make. Still that was not a good reason for them to set their own time. Other couriers would ask for our convenient time. Anyway, as I was keeping an eye on the washing machine after cutting grass, my brother-in-law and his wife arrived in a car and out came my older from New Zealand! My wife and I were very shocked of her arrival because earlier at dawn, my daughter and I were exchanging messages on FB and she told me I was cutting the grass too early. My wife's sister-in-law videod the surprise scene and they were laughing and she shared it on FB with my wife's siblings. My daughter told us that she was already in Manila on the 26th but had to attend to several matters and she called my brother-in-law in secret asking him to meet her at the airport. It was a very pleasant surprise indeed LOL!

@sunrisefan Why weren't your other daughter able to come by the way?

@SIMPLYD She has hospital duty and, besides, no one would keep an eye on their new home as most of their friends are out-of-town too. They are barely a month in the new home and they are not familiar with the neighborhood.

It is so nice to meet balikbayan (returning) relatives from abroad! My sister also surprised us last Christmas, she went home from the US, in spite of being here only last October after our brother suffered a stroke.

@hereandthere No, it's chicken from Jo's Chicken Inato. My daughter and another colleague need to get certification of good standing from PICPA/PRC so that they can be CA (Chartered Accountants) in NZ. It has become a problem in their company (PWC) because most of the senior officials come from outside of NZ.

I think we'll just be here in the city. She'll be attending to some things like going to LTO for her license renewal (she decided though not to renew because she's not driving her anyway), securing certification of good standing from the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) so she can have her status in NZ to full-pledged accountant, and other errands from her friends in NZ aside from the things her younger sister requested her to buy. She'll be flying to Manila on January 10 and connect with her former colleagues at SGV and fly back to NZ on the 14th. My wife and I will be traveling to Iloilo too for my nephew's wedding.

Yes, Ms. Thelma :) Thanks! Because of the change in climate from NZ to the Philippines, she's having cough and colds so my wife had to bring her to the doctor to be checked up. She's been given antibiotics.

@thelme55 Probably it's because you and my daughter have been used to the climate in Germany and New Zealand that it's difficult for your body to adapt to the climate here. When I have the first signs of cough or colds, I also drink the honey, ginger and lemon mix sent by our younger daughter.

@sunrisefan I can relate to that coughs and cold after arriving in the Philippines from Germany. I didn't go to the doctor. I just drunk ginger tea as often as I could and so I was cured.

@KOLAMsegaran1 I took my daughter to Jollibee (a local fastfood) for lunch because she misses the chicken and spaghetti there. It was only the two of us as my wife had a prior invitation to a birthday lunch party prior to our daughter's arrival.

Thanks, Ms. YoghurtGal :) No vacation plans because she'll be busy working on some documents and will be returning to NZ next week. My wife and I will be going to Iloilo too a day after our daughter leaves for Manila. Hope the coming year will be a good one for you and I hope you'd finally get hired.

@JudyEv You guessed it Ms. Judy :) We just arrived from dinner of grilled chicken which is among the food my daughter missed. The younger one who's left in NZ is green with envy :) BTW, the surprise almost got spoiled because my sister-in-law posted a photo of my daughter having dinner with her (S-I-L) family. All the while though, I was thinking it was an old picture taken while my daughter was still working in Makati City.

Yes, it was very nice indeed because we missed our two daughters for two Christmases already and this year would have been the third without them coming home. Unfortunately, the younger one can't come home because of her hospital duty and another reason.
