At about 2 a.m. before going to bed last night, my husband notice a red light from our flatiron in the next room beside our bedroom. It was a plugged flatiron! I was so thankful it did not caused fire because it was plugged for so many hours. At first my husband thought it was our son who used the flatiron before going out to meet our relatives some seven kilometers from our home. I was also trying to remember if it was me who left it, because I ironed my pants that I wore for a party in our neighborhood. This morning, I asked my son if he used the flatiron, and he said no. So it was me who forgot to unplug it! It was plugged from 3 p.m. till 2 a.m.! I thanked God, it did not cause fire! The tin plate which it was resting on got so hot.

@acelawrites When we go away now, we unplug and switch off just about everything because I've heard a few horror stories of appliances starting house fires.

I was quite nervous thinking of it again! So next time I will be more cautious if I unplugged it after using it.

My goodness!! Glad nothing bad happened. One of my friend, she was packing for a tour and ironing dress, in between got a call and completely forgot about this incident. The iron box spoiled and also the sheets, Thankfully she noticed it as soon as smoke started to erect. It is a dangerous thing indeed.

I found out quite a few times now, that I forgot to turn off the stove for half a day. Bad of me. Lucky in your case. Lucky for my case too, that nothing happened.
