A giraffe in the living room (a discussion about unusual decorations)

My mother once visited a friend of a friend and she was surprised to see the decorations they had in their living room. There was a huge giraffe sculpture. The head of the giraffe was very close to the ceiling and the sculpture was the first thing you saw when you entered the room.
In the past I lived in another city and some of the people who lived in our street also had an unusual decoration. They had bought an old phone booth and they used it as decoration in their living room.
Our home isn't very unusual. We have some Japanese wall decorations and a painting from Burma (Myanmar) but nothing really unusual.
Do you have any unusual decorations in your home? Or have you seen unusual decorations in other people's homes?

My home also has normal decorations. We used to have a big map of the world in our kitchen. It covered most of the wall, but we didn't keep it when we moved.

@LadyDuck It is nice to have a large map. I liked to look at ours and dream about the places that I would like to visit in the future. I would like to return to Asia.

@Nevena83 I can't really imagine it either. I prefer to have a relatively simple living room with a few decorations. We have some paintings we received as gifts and other kinds of decorations but nothing unusual.

We have some decorations in our home, but I think that it is a pretty normal home. We don't have anything unusual like the giraffe sculpture my mother saw in the home she visited.

I don't have odd decorations, but I've seen them elsewhere before. One of our customers has a metal zebra between her living room and dining room. She has the space for it, so it's not a big deal to me.
A few years back my brother paid for me to go with him and his wife and our church on a mission trip to Guatemala. My SIL was interested in several giraffes of different sizes to bring back with us. The came apart and were made of wood and the tallest was about four feet high. They had loads of fun trying to get everything to fit into their suitcase and used some of mine for one of them.
I have this picture cropped for a different site and will see if i can get it to load here. This looks like only two of the ones they brought back, unless the third is hiding behind the foliage and can't be seen in this view.

Thanks for uploading the photo. I like the giraffes, and I like idea of bringing back something unique from a trip. When I travel I have seen many things that I wanted to buy for my home, but I usually stick to things that aren't too big or too heavy. We visited a market in Cambodia, they had so many interesting things, but we had to choose a few things for ourselves and some gifts because our suitcases were already full of other things. I have never been to Guatemala or any other countries in that part of the world.

@Porcospino It was a first for me to be there, too and the only time I was anywhere but the USA. Well, other than a few trips to Canad. Two of those were when I was in French class back in the seventies, and more recently we went to Strafford to see a play with my mom before her eyes got worse.

I don't believe I have weird decorations in my home. I feel I have appropriate things on the wall and around places in my home.

I would say the same thing about my home. I have some decorations on the walls, but there are no unusual decorations here.

@Hannihar I had a bean bag chair in the past. I kept in front my tv and used it when I wanted to relax. Who is Sophie?

I have a wind chimes waiting for one of our holidays so can put it inside something. I have a bean bag chair that I put a blanket on it and put it in the bedroom and my Sophie likes to lay on it.

We have a lot of books in our home. There are so many that there isn't room for them all in the book shelves, we have to keep some of them in boxes.

@responsiveme I had even more books in the past, but I donated some of them to charity. I like to have many books, but we don't have anywhere to put the rest.

I had a bean bag in the past. I loved it, and I kept it in front my tv. Now we have a big couch instead.

@Courage7 I think that I would have the same problem today (getting up from the floor) When I visit the library I have a problem with the shelves that are close to floor. I have to ask my husband for help

I'm boring and seem to know only boring people. I can't add anything of interest to the giraffe and the phone booth.
I once saw a phone booth in a cow shed in a village where my husband and I used to go for a walk. We never had the opportunity of asking anyone why and what for it was there. When we occasionally looked in to see what the cows were doing, we never saw or heard a cow calling someone from the phone booth. :-)

It is a pity you didn't get the chance to ask them why they put the phone both in the cow shed, it would have been interesting to know the answer

That's neat decorations. I don't have any unusual decorations. My fiance gave an eagle statue this Christmas. I have some porcelain dolls and some masks on some walls.

I used to have masks, too. I bought some in Venice and some in an international shop in my country. I am not sure where the last ones were from, but I used them as decorations.

It is interesting to come in such homes; you wouldn't run out of conversation topics!

We have a small giraffe decoration. My sister-in-law bought it when she was living in Africa. I have never seen a huge giraffe sculpture like the one my mother saw.

Big camels inside the house sound unusual. We don't have anything like that. Our home is pretty normal
