Surprise!! we're getting a new TV

Happy Thursday Everyone! it's a cloudy and gloomy start to this day here with rain coming in either tonight or tomorrow. Since my title already gave away my news I can't make you guess what broke in our house last night and we have to replace. Yup...the TV. We were in the middle of a movie when the picture went out. This happened a few days ago but we thought it was due to the cable and it came back on eventually. Last night, it just gave up and died. So, this weekend we'll be going out to replace it which is really not an expense I was expecting especially after all the money that flew out of my wallet for the holidays. But, it's a necessary evil and I need a TV. I don't want to live without one so I'll be watching a tiny little TV that my daughter had in her room until we can get out and buy a new one. I remember yesterday a few fellow myLotters talking about needing new washer and/or dryers. Are you or have you had to replace something recently?

I am so sorry. This year I have replaced nothing, but the day before Christmas my Windows refused to start, I copied it back form a back-up.

@Marilynda1225 Every year I have some minor computer problems. Last year the power supply broke, at least I had a spare one at home.

Seems like the new year has brought some headaches for us. I'm thankful though that things could be worse for me than a broken tv

I'm sorry. =( I hope you can find one that isn't too expensive. I will be replacing my laptop screen when we get taxes back.

At least tv's have come down in price considerably. There's always something but as we always say...God is Good and things could be far worse.

Our plumbing under the sink is leaking and the hubby is right now under the sink fixing it and rebuilding the cabinet. It's not an appliance but it is a pain.

@HazySue and @MarshaMusselman plumbing issues are probably worse than any appliance that needs replacing. Hope everything works out well for both of you

Our plumbing is no longer leaking. We had our kitchen faucet that leaked since we moved in twenty years or so ago, It had a slight drip. We finally replaced the faucet with one of the popular brands that can be pulled out to fill large pans and it's not had a good flow since then. I had my brother come in and check it out and we think the line must be filled up with loose sediment or minerals since the previous faucet was so old. When I can afford it and when I can get my house cleaned up a bit more I may have to hire a plumber or a gal that works for less than the normal and does a great job. She does remodeling, but I'm not sure whether she can get ours working or not. Good luck on your husband fixing your sink and plumbing.

@playertwo I have a working sink, it's the faucet that is trash. We've soaked the end in vinegar and in other products but the end of ours doesn't come off. if it did we could probably just merely rinse it out.

There's never a good time to have to replace anything. I'll probably have to replace my couch before the summer.

So sorry you have such an expense and so soon after the holidays. We replaced our washer and dryer up north, because my son and his wife said it wasn’t as energy efficient as the newer models. They were right. It was about 12 years old, anyway.

The new ones really are more energy efficient and I didn't realize how much until I replaced mine last year.

@Marilynda1225 It's true. I'm glad I listened to our son and his wife. They can do so many things that the older ones can't, as well.

Yes, I had a problem with the TV. I was without it for days. And I always have this type of charge when I do not have money.

I cannot say as though we have ever had a tv up and die on us over the course of our 31 years of marriage. No, we were the couple who still had a big console wood tv set in the new melllenium. But we did replace it at my husband's insistence-although I reminded him that if it ain't broke...….And then the next set was one of those early flat screens, with the huge back and they weighed a ton, yeah, we had that until I begged him for a newer one that wasn't so cumbersome and large. And that is the set that we still use today. I hope that your new set lasts you as long as that first one that we had did.

@Marilynda1225 I know, right? I received a clock/radio for Christmas when I was about 13 or 14 years old, and it lasted us until probably 5 years ago. And we used it a lot, every day in fact, in the kitchen. Finally it got to the point where the string that pulled the indicator along the AM or FM dial just snapped, and then we couldn't tune it anymore. So it went into the garbage. And look at yourself, and me too. They don't make them like us anymore!

Does anything really last as long as the good old days when appliances, tv's etc lasted forever?

The main thing I had to replace was my tower for my desktop computer and I went ahead and got the newest version of the program I use for my bookkeeping for our business while I was at it. Because I only bought a tower it wasn't as expensive as getting a new monitor too. It was still the price of many tv's though. I had to replace mine before the holidays, so at least I didn't spend all of my wad before having to turn around and invest in a new one later on. I hope you get a good deal even though it's after the holiday. Maybe some stores will be trying to eliminate some of their stock to get ready for their final inventory.
