Long Time No See

New Year and new me - or rather after newly 'redundant' me. Which for those of you who don't know the term, means my job disappeared in yet another company reorganisation (I think we were running at a rate of 3-4 per year - a technique often known as 'rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic'). So as of a couple of days ago, I don't have a job.
I've had time to get used to it - they told me on the first working day of December - and I don't have to panic as they paid me a lot of money to shuffle off quietly and not kick up a stink. But I find myself in the odd position of not working.
I've been out of work for about 3 days in the past 27 years so this still has novelty value. I renewed my library card and have been reading like a demon. I visit my neighbour's red CockerPoo, Ralph, and throw balls around the garden for him most mornings. I cook food that's ready when my lovely husband walks through the door - heck, I even cleared the ironing backlog.
But now the tough stuff starts. Time to decide whether I want to climb back onto the rollercoaster that just threw me off, or do something different entirely. And since I have some time on my hands and have found that playing Facebook Scrabble during the day isn't as much fun as when you're SUPPOSED to be working, I thought I'd better pop back and see what's going on over at myLot.
So what did I miss?

Nice to see you but strangely not under these circumstances. Sorry to hear about your redundancy. I am retiring end of March I have had enough of the five hour commute. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I did wonder what had prompted your return, now I know. Commiserations, but if you got "the package", well done! Take any retraining or reskilling courses on offer as part of that package, then start that hunt... You'll be back in the saddle in notime. Well, by May anyway.

Hello and happy new year! Funny I was just thinking about you yesterday (after reading an article about travelling in India) and what a shame we didn't hear from you any more. So I'm sorry you have no job but glad to see you here!
Well, new year, time for a new start and all that. I imagine you might take up something totally different - what thoughts have you had so far?

Honestly I just haven't a clue. Most likely more of the same for 2-4 years and then hang up my wings and take a very early retirement. But for now I'm just enjoying some peace and every time I think of stuff that wasn't finished at work, I just tell myself "Not my problem any more".
