I Have A Suggestion...

A lot of the time the way my wife starts out a conversation around our house is, "I know you are going to say no. But I have a suggestion."
Sometimes I do indeed say no.
So today I decided to start a conversation with her in a similar way. "I know you are going to say no. But I have a suggestion."
She gets this weird look on her face since I NEVER start a conversation this way with her. I made a very serious face and told her, "We are not making enough money, and I want to retire in two years time. So, to that end, we are both going to get second jobs and work those second jobs for the next two years."
She had this contemplative stare.
"So, Walmart is hiring and they are paying $11 an hour. Let me know how you would like me to update your resume so when you apply you can get in."
A continued contemplative stare.
...and then she burst into laughter.
Okay. It was a joke. But I did not expect it to come off that way initially. And it got way more laughter than any joke I have actually worked on being funny.
It appears we will not be getting second jobs anytime soon.

Oh wow. I would have told you to start running before I beat your a$$!
For me, I can't tell my husband I want him to do something. If I do, that means he will take even longer to do it. The molding in the hallway STILL isn't finished 14 years later.

@andriaperry Yes. I do. I mean hell, we went to Cozumel, Mexico earlier this year. We are planning a trip to Miami later this year. All the front end savings is to have much more fun. And we went to the casino, we took a little trip to Cape Girardeau a while back...we do have fun, but we have more fun because we don't spend where it is just a waste.

I like the way she starts out a conversation, it's very smart of her. It's like she refuses a "No" as an answer, wonder if she's good at negotiating? I guess yes.

Couples married for years who can manage a laugh together is rare. Keep it up

Communication is very important is the couple, so it is necessary that both find the necessary forms for the relationship to remain. Good strategy to start your conversation.

I'm not sure I would have laughed but I'm glad your wife did. When we are doing DIY stuff around the house and hit a problem that I think I can solve, I often say 'can I make a suggestion'. Of course, he says 'yes' and I can make my comments without him thinking I'm telling him what to do, which I'm not but it could come across that way.
