China baby boom is over?

The population in China is beginning to shrink, even though they have got rid of their one child only policy in 2016 . That controversial policy was enforced through fines but notorious for cases of forced abortions and sterilization. In some province it was horrific what happened and metal spike was punched into the back of the new born neck. The one-child policy caused birth rates to plummet after it was introduced in 1979. I was not expecting that reduction news this week. Its the first time in 70-years the birth rate fell. The population is obviously still growing but there were 2.5 m less babies born last year(2017). Its not looking good for the IPhone 24 sales for Apple. What is true s Chinese babies are the cutest in the world.

I think having a child really costs so much. Here there are various kinds of pressure and it is not easy to have one more child. As you need someone who you trust to take care of little children when both of you to work. If one works only, the financial pressure will be heavier as everything costs money. The health and education spends money. And you need to have a bigger house if you have one more child. However, the house price is crazy expensive and it doesn't make a sense. Due to all of these issues, having one more child is difficult.

I know many Chinese people moved here to get away from that, they do have several children.

My friend left China and came to the states her and her husband wanted the second child that she was pregnant with. They are now American citizens.

The effect will not take place so soon. Even for places like India, the new born are dropping as well.

Its good the numbers are dropping I guess. But some moved away from there also so they could have more than one child.

The one child policy was terrible for those who wanted another or had another. I am glad they got rid of it.

If that's the case then it's good. Is the shrink in population only attributable to low birth rates? or it could be due to the fact that Chinese are now spread all over the world.

The government did what was best for their country. Although killing a baby with a metal spike is just wrong.

I fully agree with you that Chinese babies are cute. The population (local population) is shrinking in most countries around the world.

Oh, common - all babies are cute! Being a communist country China can enforce such policies on its population. Thank God we don't live in China!

Family planning policy is really bad in some places, I was born in that era!
