It's curtains for the kitties

When we got our kittens in May 2017, they were such sweet little things. Quickly though they developed very naughty habits - the most annoying of which was running up the curtains. About 18 months ago we had to take down the living room curtains and hide them away before they could wreck them. Those curtains were made to measure for a really large window and would cost a fortune to replace. Sadly we couldn't take down the bedroom curtains or we'd never have got any sleep for half the year. Those curtains had blackout linings and the kittens shredded the linings so badly that slithers of light were always getting through. So after a year and a bit when they'd calmed down somewhat, we got new curtains made for the bedroom and so far, so good. Last night my husband decided to rehang the downstairs curtains. Surely by now they cats would have grown up enough to behave themselves? Maybe not. Daisy, our sweet little brown girl, was so excited, running in and out, jumping up inside, but so far not actually attempting to scale the curtains. Her brother had the best place on a sheepskin by the wood burner and just ignored all the fun. So now we wait and see if it's safe to leave the curtains up - or I have to get the clippers out and start snipping their nails.

I cannot believe they are almost two years old, I remember their photos as kittens. Two of my neighbors have kittens, one is 4 months old, the others 6 months old, they are enjoying "too much" my garden.

@boiboing I am lucky that they use their litter boxes in their houses. They chew some plants, they dig out the garlic, they bring around things. I like them all, I even encourage them to come to visit me.

Probably they are leaving you small presents. One of our neighbours doesn't like Daisy and Milo visiting his garden very much. They will be two years old in February and they came to us in May. They are little furry life-changers.

I remember the impatient waiting for the kittens. Another case of 'be careful what you wish for'? Still, I'm sure they are worth a new curtain or two.

Absolutely. They challenge us every day.

Slivers of dawn leaking in through clawed blackout linings are not, in January, an immediate issue for us. That said, our kitties love the silicone sealant around the double glazing in our conservatory - as those odd draughts from icy cold winter winds occasionally testify...

That sounds like it could get very annoying.

Cats and curtains! A winning combination. One of ours likes to play a game with the curtain at the front door and the shadows cast by the kitchen light. Lots of fun!

Cats can make toys and games out of the strangest things.

Our kitten did that to our precious curtains.

@YrNemo Thankfully I can confirm we have NEVER had any of those problems with the little ones. The odd regurgitated half-mouse now and then but no little poop presents.

@boiboing Ours after climbing those pretty curtains, promptly made a pile there (when we didn't watch him! I was so angry and frustrated .)

Did you get him as a kitten? My other cat was a bit older when he came to us and he's never tried anything like this. I think the little ones encourage each other in their naughtiness.

@boiboing Yes, I got him as a kitten. But I don't have other cats.

@dya80dya So maybe he wasn't led astray by another cat. You're lucky. I'm sure he's a lovely cat.

The only cat I had was a curtain climber. My dad would always be mad with him. He never grew out of this till they end glad your kitties are settling down.
