Do you think practical jokes are funny?

Some people are great practical jokers. They will set up family and friends into some ridiculous situation and watch how they react - and laugh loudly at their embarrassment when the joke is revealed. There have been television programmes based on this premise: Candid Camera, presented by Alan Funt, is probably the best known of these types of programme. It was first aired in America in 1948 and eventually made its way to many other countries. Personally, I have never been a fan of this type of programme. Deliberately embarrassing friends and family in front of millions of viewers doesn't strike me as being particularly funny. I regard myself as having a good sense of humour but I would certainly react badly to any such treatment (on or off TV). How about you? Would take a practical joke as fun?

I like to laugh with people, not at people. I hate those jokes.

It would depend on the joke. Some of them on candid camera went too far to be funny to anyone.

I think practical jokes can be fun, but often times the prankster goes too far with the joke in my opinion, where it goes beyond funny and gets disgustingly embarrassing, or worse, compromises the safety of the person the joke is being played on. I've had practical jokes played on me before, and I am a good sport about them. I've also played practical jokes on other people, but always made sure they were in good clean fun and essentially harmless.

Jokes are one thing... practical jokes are usually at someone else's expense... if it is going to hurt someone... no, I wouldn't like them at all!!

Occasionally one or two might be funny but generally they end up going too far. I'm pretty soft-hearted and don't like seeing people being made to look fools. We did play a toast joke on a friend recently but it wasn't cruel and didn't embarrass her.
