Shooting at a local middle school

Eugene, Oregon
January 12, 2019 11:19am CST
The kids are safe and the only injuries were to the dad of one of them who was shot and killed by police. The man was involved in a custody dispute with his wife or ex-wife (not clear yet) and showed up at school. People in the school office called police, though the man had not yet displayed a gun. It is not clear yet who he was or if he was yelling or displaying anger. When the police arrived and were escorting him from the school, he began to struggle and pulled a gun. That is when he was shot and killed by police, right outside school. Some child is without a father today. It is sad that this man felt the need to carry a pistol into a school for any reason. He was wrong for even going there. My one question is, why didn't the police search or handcuff this guy before taking him from the school? Two officers were present, maybe more.

One would think he should have been handcuffed if at all possible. I wish I knew more.

I don't understand why they don't aim for a foot or arm but then better to kill him than have him kill others!

It seems that shooting wound was phased out years ago. Just today, the DA has refused to release more details.

Good question. But I respect the cops for doing the best they could . I'm dealing with a situation now, and have been impressed with the cops' professionalism and restraint.

Police in the US don't seem to be trained to wound, just kill.
