Let go

I was talking to someone and I realized that some people never let go of the past. It's good to remember the past, but it is unhealthy to dwell in it. One thing I learned early on in life is that 'the past cannot be changed.' If I wanted to be happy, letting go of the past is a must. I need to live in the now and enjoy what I have rather than mourn over what didn't work out for me. I have applied this principle to my life and it has helped me remain positive and happy always. No regrets, no grudges only happiness.' What are your thoughts on this?

You are so right in saying that nothing can be changed from our past, if it is negative, the past thing is not to dwell on it and work on the present.

@marlina sometimes it is like crying over spilled milk, let the cat clean up and move on.

I do forget incidents but not attitudes. To be able to get along one has to change one's attitude that is coming in the way of a good relationship.

@sofssu If the past continues in the present as I said particularly with regard to one's ATTITUDE how do you expect to forget the past?

@allknowing The lessons learned are with us in the present but if we dwell in the past we are stuck there.

@allknowing It is not about forgetting the past, it is not about living in the past.. Personally speaking I work continuously on my attitude and keep changing and correcting it. I mean that the past shouldn't be allowed to define the future.

We can learn a lot from the past but we should not live there.

Whether we like it or not, our past serves us our lessons that are best to remember. But that good past is acceptable.

Same here, I left the past where it belongs. You need to get it over with, otherwise it's like carying a weight all your life.

The Buddha said "learn to let go" as the first step towards enlightenment. I never like to get bogged down with the past. I forgive but remember the lessons learned - siva

@Hannihar I know, I have read a lot about the day of atonement and also how your country has been attacked on those days and how God in his graciousness has saved Israel. One reason why i want to be there.

@sofssu We have something on one of your holidays we have it. It is called The Day of Atonement. This is where we fast completely with no fun or drink for about 26 hours and people ask for foregiveness if they harmed someone. There are people that cannot move on until they take care of the past.

Very hard to let go of the past especially if it caused us much pain. They say forgive and forget ? Yes in due time because letting go and forgiving will have to go on a process.
