My marriage broke up because he cheated, that is alot of the reason, either the man or woman can't stay faithful.

Not only in the African societies even in Indian societies. Till recent past women were treated like second grade humans and they never said anything. Now the male female equation is changing. Women are free, earn their living. But men folk are yet to wake up to the new situation. Of course the divorce will increase.

First of all the couples should spend a lot to time before marriage to built up a relationship. To understand both their weakness, should build up a mutual understanding / confidence and relationship within them selves so that after marriage they can take care of each other. Today marriages are breaking due to misunderstaning.

Despite that my African friends are opposing your theses ... couldn't it just be emancipation of women? ... Like internet is spreading worldwide also information about contraception and human rights are spreading .... economic independence of women is increasing based on better education .... I am not so afraid of this phenomenon, if it really should exist, because it brings more honesty into human relationships

Dr. Sprecher discovered that satisfaction and commitment were as, or
more, important than love for couples in their desire to stay together by
surveying both partners of 101 heterosexual couples at a Midwestern
university. She examined both their actual and perceived changes in love,
satisfaction and commitment for each other over a four-year period.
By the end of the study, 59 percent of the couples had ended their
relationships. These couples reported decreased levels of satisfaction and
commitment before the relationship actually ended, but said that their
love remained unchanged.
''These results suggest that people do not end their relationship because
of the disappearance of love,'' said Dr. Sprecher, ''but because of a
dissatisfaction or unhappiness that develops, which may cause love to
stop growing.'' She also noted that love might not completely end when
the relationship ends.

i think the major cause why some of the marriages breaks up bcoz of miscommunication. if both partner have a healthy communication to each other then there's no problem that they can't find solution.

Lack of trust, love and respect. Ressentments which will add up after time, a third party...I guess there are to many to mention but in fact I think people nowadays give up to easily on a marriage .They don't wanna go through the "hard" stages but just looking for a easy way to feel good
