Favorite "State" Songs #9 - "State of Dreams"

We now sally forth as I count down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title. This is today's "State" edition. We are at #9: "State of Dreams" by Alphaville. You may, or may not, remember Alphaville, a German synth pop group best known for their 80's hits "Forever Young" and "Big in Japan." If not, no biggie, although there's a good chance that you might recognize "Forever Young" if I were to play it for you. But that's not why I'm here. If you do remember, did you realize that Alphaville is still going strong? Still releasing music, too. In fact, they just put out a new album last year. However, you can be forgiven if you aren't familiar with "State of Dreams," for you'd really have to be a pretty dedicated fan to have heard it. Starting in October of 2000, for 12 months, Alphaville released, for free, an average of one new song a month on their official website. Those songs eventually found their way onto a 2003 four CD compilation, Crazy Show. A lovely acoustic guitar ballad that builds into a grand piece of synth pop, "State of Dreams" was the first track from the set, and should remind you why you thought "Forever Young" was so damn great in the first place.
