Time now to get away from it all. I am counting down my favorite songs with "Town," "City," "State," and "Country" in the title. This is the "Country" edition, and we are at #7: "Place in the Country" by Adam Ant.
Adam Ant had already made a big splash in the new wave scene with his band, Adam and the Ants, when, taking guitarist Marco Pirroni along, he dismantled the group in 1982 and embarked on a solo career. And for awhile, the charismatic singer could do no wrong.
Writing songs with Pirroni, Ant assembled a boffo debut album (he and Pirroni also produced the record) in 1982's Friend or Foe. Powered by hit songs such as the title track, "Goody Two-Shoes," and "Desperate But Not Serious," Friend or Foe reached #5 in the UK, and a respectable #16 on the Billboard 200.
"Place in the Country" was not released as a single, yet it's a great Adam Ant tune. Part Ant Music, part rockabilly, with some ska-type horns, this one is a hell of a fun ride.
Adam Ant was a huge figure in 80's alternative music. And while you are probably never going to hear this on the radio, it's still a total blast!

All the ants here banging their head against the wall in honor of this one. I always say never mess with an ant they are crazy.

@crossbones27 - "Don't tread on an ant, he's done nothing to you, and there might come a day when he's treading on you!"

I have to get some Adam Ant out and listen to it, you done flung a craving on me!
Funny aside: I saw the lyrics to Elton John's "Sartorial Eloquence" posted somewhere, and the line, "adamant before the fall," was posted as "Adam Ant before the fall."

Well, he did start out in the 70's. Dirk Wears White Socks came out in 79.
