Younger generations

January 21, 2019 5:58pm CST
So my stepson is turning 12 in a couple of weeks and hes been wanting to go to this place called Sky Zone (a trampoline park) which sounds fun even to me ( im 29) but especially for an almost 12 year old. So yesterday he tells me and his dad that he had changed his mind on what he wants for his birthday. He tells us that he wants Jordans (expensive shoes) instead because he "wants to step up his shoe game" What in the world?? What is wrong with his generation??? Step up his shoe game?? Um okay...? To me this sounds absolutely ridiculous. Especially choosing that over a trampoline park. When i was 12 there is no way i would have chosen new shoes over a trampoline park. Kids these days.......

@PrincessREL Kids see things a whole different way though. They aren't always about family time and memories.

Thats exactly what i told him and i also said going to the trampoline park will give us family memories but expensive shoes are just a materialistic thing that you want to show off so they dont have as much meaning as spending time with your family

when i read age 12 and trampoline park it make me smile that there are kids still being kids. i wonder what made him change his mind? peer pressure? what if his shoe size changes in a year?

Exactly. I even mentioned to him about his shoe size changing. And i definitely think it was peer pressure. That age is all about fitting in, which is sad. Caring about what people think is too stressful but most of us dont learn that til later in life

They probably do. But we have been trying to teach him that if he has to have certain things to attract friends then they are not really friends
