The bill which is at the final stage to be approved as law is to require every parents to plant 2 seedlings of trees for every child they have. They cannot fulfill the birth certificate of their children unless they do the planting as pre-requisite to the birth registration of their child. It should be planted in their chosen are or if none, the village officials can suggest tothem. The main purpose is the regreening program of of the government to combat the global warming. Aside from this bill, its also in the Congress the bill mandating students to plant not less than 10 seedlings when they will graduate in elementary, high school and college.

There used to be a requirement for graduation during the Marcos years the planting of 10 tree seedlings if I remember it right.

They were not implemented properly I think since I was never required to to that when I graduated in my school days.

That is a good idea but I think the problem is really the implementation of that project. It can be a source of corruption as parents who may not be willing may just bribe the officials who handles to monitor this. With the enormity of people giving birth everyday there is plenty of opportunity for them to make money out of this.

Yes it could be the source of another way of corruption, lets just hope there will be someone to monitor the program.

That is a wise step from the government side. It is kind of forcing people to do planting trees.

@ilocosboy Something has to be done by the government. When people are hesitant then have to impose rules on them.

Wow, really! That is so nice a bill to be passed. They should do it at the soonest, so those cut off trees by the typhoons can be replaced immediately.

Yes very good move indeed. Yearly there's tree planting here. The problem I see is the maintenance.

Planting 2 or more seedlings after a baby's birth is a nice idea. The child can also have a bonding with the grown-up seedlings/ trees when he/ she grows up and fulfill the duty of planting more trees. The chain will contain with far lasting effects.

@ilocosboy For me its a great idea and would take the load off the trees that are right by the traffic and are getting sick with all the pollution the poor things their bark keeps falling off sometimes but then they seem to get better in time.

Wow that is very thoughtful of your government. I wish all countries will come up with such bills, maybe not attached to childbirth but to buy a house or building a commercial space etc.

If this becomes a global program of the countries the population of the trees will drastically multiply and the problem in climate change will be answered.

It is a good proposal; but they should include the caring of the seedlings until it fully grows so the effort of planting would not be wasted. And they should plant native trees; indigenous ones.

I'm amenable to this suggestion. Some tree planting become a failure because no one take good care of the newly planted seedlings and in reault it wither and die. So many seedlings planted that just die.
