What Brings You In Today?

In an effort to make customers feel special, a financial institution wastes no time greeting the clients as soon as they walk into the building. That in itself is fine but it's the actual greeting I have a problem with. Instead of "good morning" or "good afternoon" or just a nice smile and a "hello" the associates would ask - "What brings you in today?" Do I really want to tell them and whoever may be within earshot what my banking business is for that day? I think not. As this so called greeting continued every time I came into the bank, I simply started to respond with 'I'm just here for the usual.' Have you ever been given the red carpet treatment to the point where it was uncomfortable?

My bank has a greeter who says hello only. I prefer this and not be asked either why I'm at my bank.

That's good. As of late, the bank that I'm referring to has relaxed quite a bit on the over charged greeting committee. I don't know if it's because someone complained or if it is because the greeters actually found real work to do. LOL

@betlynfrnds Banking is very personal and very confidential so it's good that the bank relaxed asking. Sometimes for security reasons they ask I suppose, but it can be a bit disconcerting for banking is very confidential.

@oahuwriter Yes, especially with the way things are today with criminals just waiting for the right person to attack. I've gotten to the point where if I'm in a bank and I'm getting cash back from a transaction, I don't want the banker counting my cash out loud for all to hear. I might have to start making that request.

sometimes yes, but they want to do business. Like Shay said, sometimes we will just buy things we don't really intending to buy. but this is their job and see this is effective. if I am just looking around, I usually say, I am looking for _____, then if they don't have I leave.

@Mavic123456 Things have calmed down considerably at that branch. But if it should start up again, I will have to take my concerns to management for sure. Thanks.

@betlynfrnds well that's no longer employee but con artists who can really do that. they are very sharp when it comes to people persuasion. lol yes you have a point, but maybe you can bring this up to the management. your point is very valid.

I never thought to be bothered by this. I mean, eventually aren't they going to ask you that anyway?

Yes, you are asked at the window where your transaction is taking place. Usually, there is a bit of privacy so that other customers in the bank can't hear what is going on at your window.
