Improving Old Work

United States

I made the art on the left while ago in the middle of the night. I wasn't very proud of it, but for something that took me only a couple hours I thought it was passable. A year later I opened up the file and started playing around with it. I honestly wasn't expecting much. I just wanted to use it to experiment since it wasn't something I cared about ruining. After messing around with it, I started coming up with some ideas to improve upon it little by little. What you see to the right is still a work in progress, and I still can't say I am 100% satisfied with it it but I think it is looking a lot more visually interesting than the original.

I think what bothered me most about the first one was the fact that it didn't have a lot to draw an eye to. It also seemed a bit heavier on the right side and needed a bit more to balance it out. I lost the monochromatic theme I was looking for in the first one, but I think it was worth it.

Both are good and beautiful. The other one has more lights and animals on it. I think you are still working with the same.

Thank you! The second one has a bit more flowers and plantlife in the the foreground too. Its interesting how little additions and adjustments can change something so much.

Actually I like both the versions. You're right in that the second is more interesting; it's lightened up a lot and there's more going on, it certainly makes a better stand-alone picture. The first version though is kind of brooding, as if it's leading up to something. I can imagine it as an illustration to a story and it makes me wonder what will happen next!

@Fleura One is from the middle of the night, and the other is at dawn hours later... only the moon apparently never moved so that wouldn't make any sense. XD

I wonder what it would be leading up to. Maybe the 2nd picture? XD

You have certainly improved on the first one - in my humble opinion.

Thank you! I think a lot of it has to do with the additional light and colors. I am particularly fond of the colors I have in the clouds. A lot of it is still pretty rough but I think the new additions and changes has helped a lot.
