Dad's toe got amputated

If you have been following me then you'll understand all this.
I'm sorry I don't really feel like talking much. I do have notifications I know but I'm not in the mood to do them right now. So probably won't come back on here tonight after I post this.
To sum it up, I don't have Whooping Cough. Just Bronchitis.
But more importantly, Dad went to the doctors, then was highly suggested to go to the hospital. Nan ( his mum ) and I went with him. Got told it was best to have his big toe amputated.
Nan and I hugged and kissed him just before he went into surgery. I cried but I don't think my dad saw cause I turned away right after I hugged him. A nurse suggested we go home.
I rang the hospital not too long ago. She said he was fine. But I still cried again.
I know this could be worse. I'm grateful it's not a foot or leg. But obviously this would be weird to him. He was aware this was possible when he first found out he had diabetes which was when I was very little. But when the day comes for something like this to happen, though mentally prepared, it's still shocking.
I'm just sad for my dad. If I have it right, he will be there for 3 days which I prefer so doctors and nurses can monitor him.

@Mavic123456 He is still in the hospital so he isn't 100% yet. But slowly....very slowly getting there I hope.
I am ok thank you. Besides my dad I have other issues going on but not sure what's going on with all that yet so best I can say is, is that I am just ok.
How are you?

@Nevena83 Yeah you are right about that. I am glad it's nothing like that. They are still trying to save his foot which I'm still worried about but so far I've heard about it having some improvements. So that's something positive to think about for now.

@LadyDuck I agree. I am sorry about his toe but I'm glad it's only been that. Still worried about his foot but happy to know there is some improvement there and that he is in the best place he could possibly be to return to good health.

Sorry to hear this. I suspect he doesn't need to be told that it could have been far worse if he'd continued to ignore it.
Use the time he is in hospital to recover from your own illness so you'll be better able to help him out when he comes home.

@WorDazza Yeah his mum has already had a few words with him but I have told her that there's no point now because what's done is done. We can not reverse this. Only thing we can do is move forward and be more aware of what needs to be done to never let this happen again.

@Shiva49 I am glad I don't have whooping cough either. That would have made the already awful mix of what's happening even more awful.
Thank you kindly.

I pray for your dad and I hope he has a quick recovery. Your right though atleast it was just a toe and not an arm or leg. He can manage without one toe - it ma y seem weird but atleast he's still with you!

I am sorry what happened to your Dad's toe. That is not fun. Bronchitis is not fun either. I am glad you found out what it is. Did you get antibiotics?

@Hannihar Thank you Hanni. And yeah I've already had my dose of antibiotics quite some time ago. I'm still dealing with a cough and coughing fits here and there but I am improving.

@Hannihar He is doing ok thank you. They are just trying to save his foot because it's having some difficulties healing. But that seems to be doing ok too for now.

I am so glad you are improving. So I read that your father's toe was amputated? How is he doing with one less toe?

So that pumping machine did not save him, at least it's his big toe only. Hope he recovers and can control his blood sugar level.

@florelway That machine was placed onto his foot after the toe already was amputated. It's there to save the foot and thankfully so far, it's working. I'm hoping it will continue to improve his foot.
And thank you so much!

Posts like these get me emotional, however here I am giving support in this hard time. I cannot imagine what losing a toe due to diabetes feels like nonetheless it must be hard for him. The best you can do is keep him company, and be by his side. I really hope that he feels better and finally get well. I am deeply sorry to hear this. God bless you and your dad.

@VivaLaDani13 Anytime Dani. I love my dad I think as much as you love yours, and If he faced up something like your dad did, I would cry and feel down. It must not be easy to handle it, however I will be here to cheer you up, whenever I can. Stay strong!

I am sorry to hear about your dad. But like you said, sacrificing the toe to save his foot or leg was probably the best possible solution at this point. Watching the condition of your toes and feet is always a big deal for people with diabetes. I hope he makes a speedy recovery!
