I have been trying to make my use of my laptop until it is still working, and some say that is now old and I have to buy a new one.
My laptop was bought May of 2010, if you do the math(make it easier now, lol), almost nine years.
But there has been differences from the time I bought it, of course. Keys are not functioning so I am currently using an external keyboard, battery too so i have to connect it like i am using a desktop.
What I love about this old laptop of mine is that, it works well with the new Tax form(offline), faster or maybe i am more comfortable using it than any other computer.
Anyway, you think I have used up my laptop well after all this year?

Ohh.. my other laptop is about a year older than yours. I bought it in 6-16-09 according to the receipt.
It stopped working in August of 2017 so I had to buy another for my online job. I had it checked December last year, and they said I just need to replace the hard drive, battery and charger. Actually, the battery can wait because I can use it while plugged in. But I haven't bought yet the hd and charger. Maybe on May or June.
9 years for a laptop is undeniably good! =) But you might need another anytime soon.

i agree with joy that it's pretty risky. if it suddenly stops working, how can you recover everything that's in it? can you easily have it fixed, especially if you're on deadline? are you allowed to work on public computers/internet cafes or are those things confidential?
technicians have also told me what skysnap said about laptops, sometimes they're harder to fix/find parts for than desktops.

Yes, run and get a new one!! Can you keep the old one and just use it for your taxes?

If you are still happy with it then keep it. That is a long time for a computer.

It had served you for so long; but if it is still working, you do not have to change it.

I think you got some good use out of it. Maybe keep it still just to do the tax form

I got mine in 2017. I do plan to buy a new one because I want to have multiple computers so I wont have overheating problems.
