“Rush rush to me yayo
Buzz buzz give me yayo
Yoyo no, no yayo
Rush rush to me yayo”
The Debbie Harry solo roundup concludes with another soundtrack cut. I still have the extended play remix vinyl 33 rpm single.
A remake of the 1932 crime classic starring Paul Muni, “Scarface” was critically reviled for being excessive and violent. Al Pacino’s performance as the Cuban refugee druglord was over the top. But “Scarface” made money and retains a following with the drug crowd. There is the oft quoted “Say hello to my little friend.”
What the heck is “Rush Rush”? What is “Yayo”? I have no idea. Something drug related. Harry wrote lyrics and Giorgio Moroder the music as well as produced. “The father of disco” (think Donna Summer), Moroder is much more than just disco being very influential on electronic dance music, producer for a wide variety of performers and Oscar winner for “Take My Breath Away.”
The song was Harry’s initial solo single following the 1982 first breakup of Blondie and only charted at Billboard #105. “Rush Rush” simply sounds great and I like it best among her solo songs.

C'mon, you know what it is: she's got the hots for Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart!
Great series! Lots of songs I hadn't heard in a long time, and a few I'd never heard.

Nice beat! It was hard to stay still listening to this song and it was a bit short and I had to hit replay several times.

I loved Blondie when they first hit the scene. Always fun to recall, thanks, John!
