No it will not harm you. As its a supplement, something extra. If you are talking about whey protein, then whey is a fast digesting protein. If you take it after your workout it'll digest and will be absorbed really quick which will help your muscle to repair quickly.On the other hand meet your doctor and tell him that you are going to consume it. Don't rely on trainer.
