So I made my laundry soap yesterday and let it set 24 hours. It looks like it came out okay, nothing special looking but my friend says it's about the right consistency. She said to stir often. There's no scent which is really good cuz I wanted it scent free. Doing a load of laundry now and I'll update in the comments.

Laundry soap doesn't really cost too much. I don;t think I will try this one, but I know people do.

I only had to go down this route because we are trying to pay off my husband's debt, plus my oldest will be turning 18 this February and we will begin to get less money. So I'm working out ways to cut down all our expenses while there's still a year left. That way the loss won't be so harsh, since we prepared for it.

Yes it's cheaper. I fill a 5 gallon bucket with hot water. I grate 1 bar of fels naptha laundry soap (5oz) and put it into a saucepan with 4 cups of water on medium-high heat stirring constantly until it melts completely. Poor the moisture into the bucket. Add 1 cup of washing soda and 1 cup of borax powder. Stir. Then add warm water to the top, stir and snap on the lid. Let set for 24 hours. The mixture will hell up. Mine became almost sold gel. I took a stick blender and a long utensil and stirred and blended until that big gel blob has disintegrated into small chunks. They will dissolve in the wash. The consistency will be thin, like egg noodle soup.
