Have you tried collagen supplements?

A friend of mine says she's been drinking a collagen powder with juice for a while now. She said she thinks she can see a little difference in the tone and elasticity of her skin. According to vitalproteins.com "Collagen is a protein made up of amino-acids: glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, and arginine, all of which help our body's connective tissue, skin, hair, nails, as well as gut health stay as healthy as possible. Collagen protein is different than whey and casein protein because of these high levels of amino acids." Have any of you tried it? It's supposed to help strengthen bones, maybe joints, and skin toning. There's no actual scientific proof, just lots of testimonials. (Don't trust the ones that are on a site where they also sell the product.) It contains a good amount of protein which might help. We all lose collagen as we age, so if it works, it would be great. It's not a fountain of youth, but I'm going to try it. Let me know if you have any advice or have tried it. There are many different brands and formulas, but I'm going with a reputable company (I hope!) and I'll let you know how it works. If it works. Like most supplements, it will take a while to see if there's any improvement so....we shall see.

I do not like supplements, most of the time they are only a waste of time and I even fear that they are unhealthy.

Hey, welcome back! I know it's always better to get nutrition from food, but I'll still give this a try.

I prefer to eat food that contains collagen proteins instead of getting "powders". If you are interested the food high in collagen are: broth made using beef bones, wild salmon, leafy greens, citrus, eggs, berries, tomatoes, garlic, avocados. I think I get more than enough.

I´m taking hydrolyzed collagen to hlp my knees. I hope it works although it is too soon to tell. It can´t do anything bad, except that here it is quite expensive. That´s why I am also cooking some food with a lot of collagen to help out.

We can get collagen from chicken feet broth, I'm serious, it's readily available in our markets, Filipinos learned to eat it from the Chinese and the Chinese have been using it as collagen medicine for hundreds if not thousands of years, it's natural and won't cost that much. Just trying to share some information

I bought one, the same one in powdered form, but could not tell if it made a difference; maybe it helped too. I stopped using it because it is very expensive. There are certain foods that are rich in collagen so am trying them too and they are cheaper.

It might be less expensive here. It's always better if you can get nutrients from food.

I know alot of skin care products contain collagen. I Have been using this hemp oil as a moisturizer. I would say it works pretty well.

Honestly, it sounds like a lot of hype to me. You can get amino acids from any protein source--animal protein (beef, chicken, pork, fish, eggs), protein powders, beans, nuts, etc. Also--there is no such amino acid as hydroxyproline. that is just a modified version of proline. I wouldn't trust a site that is trying to make it sound like you are getting more than you actually would be from collagen. If collagen had some magical way to improve skin tone or elasticity, then any protein source would have the ability to do the same thing as all proteins contain amino acids. Collagen doesn't contain any more than any other protein. ALL proteins are built from amino acids.

It sounds interesting and maybe even promising. I'm open-minded yet cautious about trying supplements and natural remedies. That's great advice about not trusting testimonials on a seller's site. I'm looking forward to reading about your experience in a few weeks. (Months?)

It may take a while to get results, if any at all. I want to be aware of any side effects, also. I'll keep you guys posted!
