What do you think about cosmetic surgery?

I was reading a story in the press today about the number of ordinary people who decide to have some type of cosmetic plastic surgery in an attempt to boost their self-esteem. The most popular procedure was breast augmentation (the 'boob job') followed by blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and facelifts.
The vast majority of people undergoing such procedures are female. Is this done out of pure vanity or are there good psychological reasons for cosmetic plastic surgery?

@LadyDuck Youth or youthful looks are worshipped everywhere but no amount of 'procedures' will hold back the ravages of time forever

@Moon24 It's down to the individual and whether they think it's worth all that pain

@wolfgirl569 It's freedom of choice I suppose but some people have more money than sense!

@JudyEv Me neither! I've been through enough surgery not to willingly put myself under the knife again!

I think it is their right to do what they want as long they have the money.

@db20747 Many people (mainly women) have repeated procedures in an attempt gain 'perfection' but, in humans, perfection doesn't exist!
