Old movies

Some days ago my husband and I watched an old movie. It is a Danish movie from 1944. It is a story about a young girl from a small town who finds a job in Copenhagen. The plot isn't very original – a young girl moves to the capital, and she thinks that she will have a fantastic time there, but she discovers that her life in Copenhagen is very different from her dreams and at the end of movie she decides to move back to the small town she came from. The interesting part about this movie wasn't the plot, but the differences between that time and today. The actors use words and expressions that aren't common today. I understand the meaning, but I would never use those words. The actors are so polite compared to the way people act today and I also found it interesting to see the prices from that time. In the beginning of the movie the young woman arrives in Copenhagen and she asks how much a taxi costs. She finds it too expensive and decides to walk. Today you can't even buy the smallest chocolate bar with that amount. There were many other differences. Of course the differences aren't surprising. I expected to find many differences, but I still found it interesting. . Do you watch old movies? Or only new movies? Which movie genres do you like?

I love old movies just because the actors are more polite, they do not use rude words and you can "imagine" things without that they are shown to you.

The way the actors speak to eachother is one of the big differences I notice when I watch an old movie. They were more polite and respectful. In the old Danish movies the actors use the polite form when they speak to strangers. Today people don't usually use the polite form when they speak to strangers. Today we use the same form when we speak to strangers and friends.

@LadyDuck Some time ago I visited a library and the section for children and the music section were next to eachother. While I was looking at some of the cds I heard the children talk to one of the librarians. The children were extremely rude. When I was a child (in the 80s) we didn't speak that way to adults.

@Porcospino You are right and this is the same in every country and this is not something I like. I could sound "old style", but I liked to be addressed in a more polite way.

I haven't seen many vintage movies from other countries, but I like our local movies. The oldest ones I have seen are from the 30s.

Some movies get very old with age and some are ageless. I think that one of the best movies I have ever seen is the Danish movie 'Babette´s feast'.

"Babette's feast" is a beautiful movie. It is from 1987, but I never got the chance to see it while it was new. I watched about 10 years ago with my husband.

I watch some old shows. The price of things is always a big one that I notice too.

Yes, the prices are so different. I think it is interesting to see how much a taxi ride or a meal in a restaurant cost at that time.
