Milk at school

I remember we were made to drink milk every morning at school. Not sure to this day what the reasoning behind it was or even when it was stopped. All I know is I hated it. Much later I learned to bring chocolate powder to mix into it from home which made it so much better.
Did you have to drink milk at your school and does anyone know what the purpose behind it was?

My parents wrote me a note saying I didn't have to drink milk! I'm sure the purpose was that milk was healthy and would give everyone good protein and energy, but I didn't like it! Oddly enough, I do like it now!

They obviously either decided the parents are doing a good enough job with the protein or they were wrong :)
I like it now also but with coffee ;)

No we weren't but I like milk so when I was a kid I never go to school without drinking a glass of milk and I don't go to sleep without drinking milk as well.
When I was teaching a public elementary school in Thailand, they do give milk to children every single morning.

In the beginning we had to drink milk at school. From the first grade to sixth grade everyone drank milk, from the seventh grade we were able to choose if we wanted milk or not. I didn't want it, so I started drinking other things from the 7th grade.
