Beginning a new series of music trivia songs with "days of the week in the title." Now I know a series of favorite day songs have been covered before by my fellow music posse (you know who you are, lol), but it never hurts to compare "notes."
And they say immitation is the sincerest form of flattery so consider yourself saluted and flattered both... (PS- Probably won't be the last time I flatter my music post heros) So, lets get to it!
This video should provide your first clue as to our music triva's song titles. If you rushing to get yourself organizied and off to work you can relate to this tune. These girls certainly hit on the feel of this day. Even if you don't know any of the songs and artists from the clues give the video a listen you might just enjoy it...
Whodunnit? Do You know the songs and artists from these clues:
1. Today's mystery tune by this Folk/Pop-Rock group was their only song to reach the # 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100. This California based group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. In 1967 they won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for this song. They performed this song at the famous Monterey Pop Festival. The title of this tune is repeated. The song's lyrics suggest a problem with this one day, but not every other day of the week... the others are just fine, yeah.
2. This power pop-rock band is from Ireland and led by their frontman vocalist, who just happened to receive the equivalency of knighthood from the Queen for his charity work. This band recorded a hit # 1 single off their 2nd album making them the first Irish group to have a song reach this position on the UK charts. This trivia song is about a San Diego high school student who opened fire on an elementary school with a rifle, killing 2 adults (including the principal) and injuring 9 kids before going back to her home. When asked why she did it, she replied, "I just started shooting, that's it, it's just a way to cheer the day up." Apparently the girl did not like this day of the week very much!
Bonus: The song "Manic Monday" was not written by The Bangles. Do you know who penned this song?
Ok, time to figure out the music trivia come up with the answers and "make my day." If your stuck and need additional help just let me know in your response. "Reach Out and I'll Be There" if more clues are needed. As always, thanks for reading and responding to my music post !!!!

1. I had an EP with that song and “Hey Girl” on one side once upon a time. I also saw Graham Nash in concert once, and his opening act was Ms. Elliott’s sister, Leah Kunkel. She looked so much like Cass it was scary...she could’ve gone to Swathmore!
2. It’s sad that it’s the only “hit” it America by those Ratty boomtowners.
3. I don’t think I know who wrote “Manic Monday,” but I hear he was a Prince of a guy.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but being run over by a steam roller is the surest form of flattening!!

@dgobucks226 -- yeah, Graham was wearing shoes. This was 1980.
And I like James Taylor's version (gotta love Danny Kortchmar's guitar work), but that's an Elvis song to me.

@FourWalls Hard to argue with Elvis The musicians playing with James are stellar, and that includes in concert. Taylor in concert was one I really enjoyed seeing. Perfect music for an outdoor venue on a July summer evening

Was Graham wearing shoes at that concert. When I saw him with Crosby and Stills he said he prefers going barefoot. And as the famous line in Creeque Alley goes:
And everybody's gettin' fat except Mama Cass
Di-di-di-dit dit dit di-di-di-dit, whoa....
I agree with your assessment on #2. And #3 he was sure a revolution wasn't he
PS- I'm sure James Taylor would agree with you about the flattery (flattening) thing
