Morocco day 2: Collecting the missing bag.
EasyJet - or in this case Not-At-All-EasyJet - didn't put our bag on the plane from London to Marrakech and because Moroccan airports won't release bags to couriers for them to be delivered, they told us we had to wait for them to find the bag, get it to Marrakech and then they'd call us to come and get it. In theory this would be easy but annoying if we were staying IN Marrakech but it's not easy when you're based a 3 hour drive away.
We finally got confirmation the bag had arrived at Monday lunch time - too late to go an get it with public transport as the last bus back runs at about 7 pm and we couldn't have got there, got the bag and got back to the bus station in time.
We booked the 6.45 am bus from Essaouira to Marrakech - 80 dirhams per person each way (about 8 euros or £7). On arrival we were looking for the local bus number 19 - NO BUS STOP. That took some time to resolve but we finally spotted the bus, jumped up and down and were allowed on.
At the airport we waited nearly an hour for the man in the baggage office to find the man in the uniform who had the key to the cupboard where they had hidden the bag. By about noon we had it back and were off to find the bus 19 back to the station. That took another 45 minutes and then we sat on the terrace of the McDonalds for a couple of hours before realising that the bus didn't leave from where we'd arrived and we then had to rush off to find the right place, pay our 'bag supplement (about 50 pence) - and get on the bus. We were finally back in Essaouira just after 6 pm.
In total it cost us about £35 and 12 hours.
The bus trips were OK. I slept most of the way up (I hadn't slept the night before) but on the way back a local woman sat behind me gave her son a tablet to play with and no headphones. After 20 minutes of him listening to Russian cartoons (I kid you not) and then humming along to 'The Wheels on the Bus' I cracked and put my own headset on to try to block out the noise.
Back at our accommodation, I was calmed down with a nice gin and tonic and some olives and now we're getting on with the holiday.

I'm just wondering why something seems to foul up when we are about to get some relaxation, it happens to me too, could it be that we are magnifying things because we expect everything to be perfect on a vacation? When it happens to me, I just convince myself that something is bound to happenand tell myself so long as it's not some terrorist attack or plane trouble. I'm sorry you had to go through all the trouble

Oh I've had a lot of those things too. We were in Spain diving when 9/11 happened and we knew nothing about it until 2 days later. There had been a suggestion that the airlines were going to ban ALL hand luggage and we had several thousand pounds worth of pressure sensitive dive equipment that absolutely couldn't go in the hold plus (bizarrely) several hundred pounds worth of Lalique glass vases). In the end it all turned out to be OK.

OH lordy what a trial. Glad you were finally reunited with your case even if it was a DIY jobbie of going to get it. I hope the G&T's were flowing and you are now enjoying your holiday! I hope the journey back is less eventful.

To be honest, you just have to make the most of what life throws your way. I was with my husband, our friend who we left at the house was happy to have a very easy day as her sciatica was flaring up, and we got the bag (and our bears) back eventually. No point making too big a deal about it whilst we're here. But when I get back, I will be on a mission to get the company to change their policy and give more assistance. Even people who HAD been staying in Marrakech could easily have been significantly out of pocket for going to collect their bags and it's not enough for the airline to hide behind a local customs policy to evade their responsibilities.

wow. I never had a bag go missing. But my mother had her luggage go missing when she was coming here by train. She was living in Greenville, NC and she was coming to Charlotte, NC. She did get her luggage back though.
