Girl Code??

I was watching a show on television and there was a bit of drama. One of the women wanted to fight her friend. Her reason was because she had broken the code. Now ladies we all know what that means: girl code was broken in some way.The "don't mess with my man or ex man" rule usually. However they had barely been friends a year. So to me all the drama was unnecessary because the code hadn't kicked in yet. But this is just my thoughts. Girl code starts at two to five years friendship. What do you think? Do you use girl code rules? If so, when does the rules start to apply? Guys does the "no messing with my ex" rule apply in bro code?
